7. Adrenal Bioactivation and Toxicity of 3-MeSO2-DDE, o,p´-DDD and DMBA Investigated in Tissue Slice Culture
Sammanfattning : I developed a precision-cut adrenal slice culture procedure to investigate cytochrome P450 (CYP) catalysed irreversible binding and adrenocorticolytic effects in human, rodent, and fish adrenal tissue, ex vivo. Autoradiography and radioluminography of exposed tissue slices showed that the potent adrenal toxicant 3-methylsulphonyl-2,2´-bis(4-chlorophenyl)-1,1´-dichloroethene (MeSO2-DDE) causes a selective metabolite binding in zona fasciculata (ZF), which is diminished by the CYP11B1 inhibitor metyrapone. 8. Psychological methods for the assessment of chronic toxic encephalopathy and multiple chemical sensitivity
Sammanfattning : The dissertation deals with psychological methods aimed at improving the understanding and assessment of two disorders related to contact with chemicals: solvent-induced chronic toxic encephalopathy (TE) and multiple chemical sensitivity (MCS). The main aim of Paper I was to study whether the addition of some newer psychological tests of complex attention and executive functions to a traditional test battery would improve the detection of TE. 9. Algal-Bacterial Photobioreactors for the Degradation of Toxic Organic Pollutants
Sammanfattning : The aerobic biodegradation of toxic organic volatile contaminants is always limited by the low aqueous solubility of O2. Therefore, intensive bubbling or surface aeration is required to supply the bacterial community with sufficient O2 to carry out pollutant mineralization. This can cause the hazardous volatilization of toxic volatile contaminants. LÄS MER
10. Ecological implications of the production of toxic substances by fish killing phytoplankton species grown under variable N:P-ratios
Sammanfattning : The influence of different nutrient conditions on the production of toxins was studied in certain fishkilling haptophytes (e.g. Prymnesium parvum and Chrysochromulina polylepis). LÄS MER
