1. Emissions from Fires Consequences for Human Safety and the Environment
Sammanfattning : Accidental fires represent a risk for people from the heat and fire effluents produced. It is clear from fire statistics that it is, in fact, the toxic gases that kill and injure many fire victims. Further, there are a number of compounds that are readily produced in fires, which have important sublethal effects on humans. LÄS MER
2. Selectivity and gas composition in electrochemical systems by mass spectrometry
Sammanfattning : This doctoral thesis presents experimental studies of gaseous products of two electrochemical systems: the chlorate process and the nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) battery, employing mass spectrometry. The cathodic efficiency for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) of the chlorate process was investigated by employing ex-situ synthesized MnOx electrodes. 3. Assessment of safety characteristics for Li-ion battery cells by abuse testing
Sammanfattning : Despite the many advantages with lithium-ion batteries there can be disadvantages in form of safetyissues. In an abuse situation a Li-ion cell can undergo a thermal runaway releasing excessive heat, flammable and toxic gas emissions and eventually accompanied by dissembling/explosion and fire. LÄS MER
4. Sustainable Aluminum and Iron Production
Sammanfattning : Aluminium recycling requires 95% less energy than primary production with no loss of quality. The Black Dross (BD) produced during secondary aluminium production contains high amounts of water-soluble compounds, therefore it is considered as a toxic waste. LÄS MER
5. Crystalline Porous Materials Inspired by Metallodrugs
Sammanfattning : Inspiration for developing robust porous materials from sustainable reagents was acquired by determining the crystal structures of bismuth subsalicylate and bibrocathol, two long-used and commonly available bismuth-based pharmaceuticals. From these insights, a number of coordination polymers and metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) were developed, facilitating the synthesis of robust porous materials from sustainably sourced reagents.
