1. Structural Silicides - Processing, Microstructure and Toughening
Sammanfattning : Molybdenum disilicide is a promising candidate material for high temperature structural uses. However, its room-temperature toughness is rather low and has to be improved. The objective of this thesis is to improve the fracture toughness of MoSi2 by alloying and composite processes. LÄS MER
2. Alternative binder hardmetals for steel turning
Sammanfattning : The goal of this work is to understand how the wear and deformation mechanisms of hardmetalinserts change when the cobalt binder phase is replaced with a dierent metal or analloy. The focus is on inserts for steel turning. The work presented in this licentiate thesisconsists of the rst steps. LÄS MER
3. Processing and Properties of zirconia-CNT composites
Sammanfattning : In the last decades there has been growing interest in developing ceramic materials with high fracture toughness (KIc) and strength for structural applications. In the specific case of 3 mol % yttria-doped tetragonal zirconia (3Y-TZP), K_Ic can be increased by promoting phase transformation from tetragonal (t) to monoclinic (m) phase in front of a propagating crack tip referred to as transformation toughening. 4. Electron-beam curing of thermoset resins for composites
Sammanfattning : Electron-beams (EB) are an alternative to traditionalthermal curing when manufacturing thick thermoset composites. It is a quick and energetically efficient technique when curinglarge fiber reinforced parts. Most of the published work onEB-curing deals with curing of thin layers of resin or withcrosslinking of polymers. LÄS MER
5. ZrN based Nanostructured Hard Coatings : Structure-Property Relationship
Sammanfattning : Ever since the hard coatings have been introduced, there has been a constant push for better mechanical properties, which motivates for deeper understanding of the microstructure-mechanical properties correlation. The aim of this thesis is to extend the knowledge on how microstructural variation influences the deformation, fracture and wear behavior of ZrN based nanostructured coatings. LÄS MER
