  1. 21. Fluid and nutrition support before total hip replacement surgery

    Författare :Stefan Ljunggren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Surgical trauma results in a variety of physiological reactions in the body, including transient insulin resistance. The effect of surgery on postoperative wellbeing has been linked to this insulin resistance, which can be prevented through the ingestion of carbohydrate-rich liquid before surgery. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Nutritional status in peritoneal dialysis. Studies in body composition, lipoprotein metabolism and peritoneal function

  3. 23. Fuel and fly: adaptations to endurance exercise in migrating birds

    Författare :Anders Kvist; Bröstcancer-genetik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; water balance; flight power; phenotypic flexibility; energy assimilation; basal metabolism; Animal ecology; Djurekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Birds on migration alternate between consuming fuel stores during flights and accumulating fuel stores during stopovers. This thesis highlights some of the ways in which migrating birds have adapted to the different demands of fuelling and flight. Most of the time on migration is spent at stopover sites accumulating fuel stores. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Validation and application of objective measures of obesity and physical activity : studies in pregnant and non-pregnant adults and in infants

    Författare :Anna Gradmark; Paul W Franks; David Fields; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :physical activity; validation; body composition; abdominal adipose tissue; methods; accelerometer; pregnancy; insulin sensitivity; offspring;

    Sammanfattning : Background Excess adipose tissue and low physical activity are two major determinants for chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.  Understanding these relationships requires accurate and precise measures of body composition and physical activity, and most existing observational studies lack such measures. 5. 25. Autonomic cardiac control in long QT syndrome : clinical studies of arrhythmogenic triggers

    Författare :Anna Lundström; Annika Rydberg; Urban Wiklund; Håkan Eliasson; Jacob Tfelt-Hansen; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Long QT syndrome; pediatrics; exercise; Holter; water immersion; arrhythmia; clinical physiology; ECG; heart rate variability; heart rate response; cardiovascular disease; hjärt- och kärlforskning; kardiologi; Cardiology; pediatrik; Pediatrics;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Long QT syndrome (LQTS) is an inherited cardiac disease characterized by prolonged cardiac repolarization and an increased risk for life-threatening arrhythmias. These arrhythmias are typically triggered by adrenergic stimuli, such as physical activity and intense emotions, implicating that the sympathetic part of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) is involved in arrhythmogenesis.
