  1. 1. Small-Animal Imaging with Liquid-Metal-Jet X-Ray Sources

    Författare :Daniel Larsson; Hans Hertz; Anna Burvall; David Paterson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; X-ray; x-ray imaging; small animal; phase contrast; tomography; Physics; Fysik;

    Sammanfattning : Small-animal x-ray imaging is an important tool for medical research. The penetration power of x-rays makes it possible to investigate the 3D structure of small animals and other thick biological samples by computed tomography (CT). LÄS MER

  2. 2. Biological Laboratory X-Ray Microscopy

    Författare :Mikael Kördel; Hans Hertz; Ulrich Vogt; Jonas A. Sellberg; Rajmund Mokso; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; x-ray microscopy; laboratory x-ray microscopy; water window; biological; cell imaging; virus; Biological and Biomedical Physics; Biologisk och biomedicinsk fysik; Optics and Photonics; Optik och fotonik;

    Sammanfattning : Soft x-ray microscopy in the water window (? ≈ 2.3 − 4.3 nm) is a powerful technique for high-resolution biological imaging. The strong natural contrast between carbon-based structures and water allows visualization of hydrated and unstained samples, while providing enough transmission through up to ∼ 10 μm of organic matter. 3. 3. Characterisation and application of a laser-based hard x-ray source

    Författare :Matthias Grätz; Atomfysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; X-ray spectroscopy; radiography; medical imaging; differential imaging; time-gated imaging; scatter reduction; Monte Carlo simulation; Atomic and molecular physics; computed tomography; Fysicumarkivet A:1998:Grätz; laser-produced plasma; Atom- och molekylärfysik; X-ray sources;

    Sammanfattning : Hard X-rays are generated by focusing 110 fs laser pulses with intensities of about 1017 W·cm-2 onto solid metal targets. Characteristic properties of this X-ray source are the small source size, the short pulse duration and the high peak flux. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Conventional spiral and low-dose computed mandibular tomography for dental implant planning

    Författare :Annika Ekestubbe; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Artifacts; Dental Implantation; Endosseous; methods; Dental Implants; Humans; Jaw; Edentulous; radiography; Mandible; radiography; Patient Care Planning; Phantoms; Imaging; Radiation Dosage; Radiography; Dental; methods; Reproducibility of Results; Tomography; X-Ray; instrumentation; methods; Tomography; X-Ray Computed; methods;

    Sammanfattning : Absorbed doses to radiosensitive organs in the head and neck from pre-implant conventional hypocycloidal, conventional spiral and computed tomography (CT) were measured with thermoluminescent dosimeters in an anthropomorphic phantom head. From conventional tomography organ doses, except to the major salivary glands, were below 0.2 mGy. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Shaping Macroporous Ceramics : templated synthesis, X-ray tomography and permeability

    Författare :Linnéa Andersson; Lennart Bergström; Ludwig Gauckler; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Alumina; ceramic; CO2 capture; colloidal processing; expandable microspheres; gel casting; layer-by-layer; macroporosity; near-net shape; non-destructive evaluation; permeability; porosity; sacrificial templating; X-ray computed tomography; Chemistry; Kemi; materialkemi; Materials Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Macroporous ceramic materials have found widespread technological application ranging from particulate filters in diesel engines, tissue engineering scaffolds, and as support materials in carbon capture processes. This thesis demonstrates how the pore space of macroporous alumina can be manipulated, analysed in three-dimensions (3D) using visualisation techniques, and functionalised with a CO2-adsorbing material.
