  1. 16. Stroke recovery activity-dependent mechanisms

    Författare :Miriana Quattromani; Neurokirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :Stroke recovery; Photothrombosis; Enriched environment; Bioluminescence imaging; Toll-like receptor 2; Microglia; Neurons; Extracellular matrix; Perineuronal nets; Aggrecan; Proteases; Parvalbumin; Resting-state functional connectivity;

    Sammanfattning : Stroke is the leading cause of disability in developed countries and among the major causes of death worldwide. During a stroke, neurons deprived of their normal metabolic substrates cease to function in seconds and show signs of structural damage after only a few minutes which result in the impairment of sensory and motor function. 2. 17. Influence of host genetics on innate immunity and susceptibility to urinary tract infection

    Författare :Bryndis Ragnarsdottir; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neutrophils; IRF3; Innate Immunity; urinary tract infections; acute pyelonephritis; asymptomatic bacteriuria; Toll-like receptor 4; CXCR1; TLR4 adaptors; polymorphisms;

    Sammanfattning : It has been known for a long time that the clinical manifestations of urinary tract infections (UTI) differ markedly between individuals, ranging from a sometimes beneficial, asymptomatic state to life threatening infections. This variability in clinical manifestation can be explained in part by the arsenal of virulence factors of the bacteria but the predisposition of the patient is equally important. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Toll-like receptor-induced cytokine secretion by human monocytes in healthy donors and septic patients assessed at the single cell level

    Författare :Christian Smedman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Following the ligation of Toll-like receptors (TLRs) by bacterial-derived signature molecules, innate immune cells such as monocytes, macrophages and neutrophils initiate the inflammatory process by secreting chemokines and cytokines with a wide range of immunomodulatory effects. Under normal conditions, these mediators work to compartmentalize the inflammatory process and eradicate the intruder, while simultaneously recruiting more immune cells to the site of infection. 4. 19. Role of Neutrophils and Innate Immune Mechanisms in Urinary Tract Infections

    Författare :Björn Frendéus; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Mikrobiologi; mycology; virology; bacteriology; Microbiology; Mucosal immunology; Infection Resistance; Neutrophils; Toll-like receptors; Urinary Tract Infections; Chemokine receptors; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Sammanfattning : Urinary tract infections (UTI) are among the most common infections in man. Despite their prevalence, information on the molecular mechanisms defects that explain the increased susceptibility to disease are lacking. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Dendritic cell maturation and death during Salmonella infection. Role of pro-inflammatory cytokines and MyD88

    Författare :Malin Sundquist; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Dendritic cells; Costimulatory molecules; Bacterial infection; Pro-inflammatory cytokines; Toll-like receptors; Ag presentation; Cell death;

    Sammanfattning : The costimulatory molecules CD80 and CD86 are required for the ability of dendritic cells (DC) to induce both tolerance and immunity. This thesis investigates the control of CD80/CD86 upregulation in vivo on DC during Salmonella infection. LÄS MER
