1. Bioactive Coatings and Antibacterial Approaches for Titanium Medical Implants
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to characterize and manufacture coatings and surfaces with antibacterial properties and retained or enhanced bioactivity and biocompatibility. The aim was also to study the optimal composition and parameters of mixtures for debridement of bacterial biofilms on titanium surfaces. LÄS MER
2. Improved titanium and steel implants : Studies on bisphosphonate, strontium and surface treatments
Sammanfattning : Purpose: The general aim of this thesis was to increase the understanding of biomaterial surface modifications and local delivery of osteoporosis drugs for bone integration. We therefore (i) characterised and investigated model surface coatings for controlled drug delivery in a rat tibia screw model (ii) elucidated the effect of surface treatment for activation of complement system in vitro. 3. Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis. The Role of Low Dose Computed Tomography
Sammanfattning : Continuous implementation of new operative methods for correction and stabilization of spinal deformities in young patients with AIS demands a detailed morphological analysis of the vertebral column. CT spine according to protocols available in daily clinical practice means high radiation dose to these young individuals. LÄS MER
4. On magnesium-modified titanium coatings and magnesium alloys for oral orthopaedic applications : in vitro investigation
Sammanfattning : In dentistry and orthopaedic surgery, research to find and developimproved biomaterials is progressing rapidly.Of specific interest is to accelerate bone formation around theimplant surface, which could improve the reliability of the implanteven in patients with compromised situations. 5. Titanium Oxide and Bone Anchorage: Role of the Complement System, and Delivery of Osteoporosis Drugs from Mesoporous TiO2
Sammanfattning : The clinical success of bone implants of titanium (Ti) is largely ascribed to the biological performance and the physicochemical properties of the outermost titanium(IV)dioxide (TiO2) layer. Several advancements have been done on TiO2 in order to optimize its healing and anchorage to bone, and there is a need for further understanding and control of the molecular reactions preceding long-term osseointegration.
