  1. 1. Small-Scale Absorbed Dose Modelling in Selective Internal Radiation Therapy : Microsphere Distribution in Normal Liver Tissue

    Författare :Jonas Högberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; clusters; dosimetry; heterogeneity; liver; microspheres; radioembolisation; simulations; SIRT; surgery; yttrium-90;

    Sammanfattning : Radioembolisation (RE), with yttrium-90 (90Y) labelled microspheres, is an increasingly common treatment method for unresectable liver tumours. The tolerable mean absorbed dose for normal liver (NL) tissue is higher in RE than in External Beam Radiation Therapy (EBRT); absorbed dose heterogeneity is thought to be one important reason, together with a low absorbed dose rate, but the knowledge of microsphere distributions is limited. 2. 2. Biophysical modelling in diffusion MRI: The role of tissue microstructure and water exchange

    Författare :Markus Nilsson; Lund Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Diffusion; MRI; tissue microstructure; water exchange; Monte Carlo simulations; white matter;

    Sammanfattning : Diffusion MRI is widely used to study brain structure in vivo. While this technique is often applied to investigations of brain connectivity, it can also be used to infer specific information about the tissue microstructure; for example, to estimate the axon diameter. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Optical Analysis of biological media - continuous wave diffuse spectroscopy

    Författare :Jan Sørensen Dam; Atomfysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; spatially resolved diffuse reflectance; in vitro diffuse spectroscopy; continuous wave techniques; Nuclear physics; multivariate data analysis.; Kärnfysik; Fysik; Physics; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Monte Carlo simulations; light propagation models; multiple scattering; Tissue optics; tissue optical properties; Fysicumarkivet A:2000:Sörensen Dam;

    Sammanfattning : The main topic of this thesis is real-time quantification of relevant chromophores and light scattering elements in biological media. The presented methods and instrumentation are based on continuous wave (steady-state) optical measurements of (a) spatially-resolved diffuse reflectance from bulk media and (b) combined spatially-resolved and goniometric measurements of re-emitted light from thin samples. 4. 4. Models and Simulations of the Electric Field in Deep Brain Stimulation : Comparison of Lead Designs, Operating Modes and Tissue Conductivity

    Författare :Fabiola Alonso; Karin Wårdell; Simone Hemm; Johannes D Johansson; Fernando Seoane; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Sammanfattning : Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is an established surgical therapy for movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease (PD) and essential tremor (ET). A thin electrode is implanted in a predefined area of the brain with the use of stereotactic neurosurgery. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : There are many examples of complex networks in science. It can be genetic regulation in living cells, computers on the Internet, or social and economic networks. In this context, Boolean networks provide simplistic models that are relatively easy to handle using computer simulations and mathematical methods. LÄS MER
