6. Tissue Factor in Complex : Studies of interactions between blood coagulation proteins
Sammanfattning : Many biological processes rely on specific protein-protein interactions, for example immune responses, cell signaling, transcription, and blood coagulation. Blood coagulation is initiated when a vessel wall is damaged, exposing tissue factor (TF) to the circulating factor VII/factor VIIa (FVII/FVIIa) which results in the formation of the TF:FVIIa complex and thereby the initiation of blood coagulation. 7. On tissue reactions to and resorption of bone substitutes
Sammanfattning : Background: The increasing need for bone grafting procedures inimplant dentistry and the introduction of a variety of bone substitutesrequire a deeper understanding of the biological response and shortandlong-term behaviour of these materials to choose the adequategraft and surgical procedure for the intended clinical application.Aims: The overall aim was to clinically and histologically studythe short- and long-term tissue reactions to and resorption of bonesubstitutes after bone augmentation. 8. Hyaluronan Based Biomaterials with Imaging Capacity for Tissue Engineering
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents the preparation of hyaluronan-based biomaterials with imaging capability and their application as scaffolds in tissue engineering. First, we have synthesized HA derivatives functionalized with different chemoselective groups. LÄS MER
9. Brain Tissue Oxygenation in Traumatic Brain Injury : Experimental and Clinical Studies
Sammanfattning : Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a major cause of death and disability. TBI is frequently followed by cerebral ischemia which is a great contributor to secondary brain damage. The main causes of cerebral ischemia are pathophysiological changes in cerebral blood flow and metabolism. LÄS MER
10. Merging electronics and the brain - towards a fully biocompatible neural interface
Sammanfattning : Techniques for interfacing the nervous system using chronically implanted electrodes are turning into invaluable tools for neurophysiological research and treatment of neurological disorders. These methods have been developed and refined over the last decades. LÄS MER
