12. Antibody-based Profiling of Expression Patterns using Cell and Tissue Microarrays
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, methods to study gene and protein expression in cells and tissues were developed and utilized in combination with protein-specific antibodies, with the overall objective to attain greater understanding of protein function. To analyze protein expression in in vitro cultured cell lines, a cell microarray (CMA) was developed, facilitating antibody-based protein profiling of cell lines using immunohistochemistry (IHC). 13. Radiobiological effects of the thyroid gland - transcriptomic and proteomic responses to 131l and 211At exposure
Sammanfattning : Radionuclides are widely used in medicine. 131I is one of the most employed radionuclides and is administered to patients either bound to tumor targeting molecules or as halide to target the thyroid or thyroid cancer. LÄS MER
14. TISSUE MICROARRAY PERSPECTIVES ON CYCLIN D1 IN BREAST CANCER: Progression, prognosis and prediction
Sammanfattning : Breast cancer is a truly heterogenous disease, reflected in the existence of a wide spectrum of phenotypic subsets of tumours with varying intrinsic aggressiveness as well as ability to respond to a given treatment. Recent advances in large-scale genomic and proteomic screening techniques have confirmed this heterogeneity also at a molecular level, but there is still a bottleneck to be overcome before the discoveries in the laboratory can be translated into the much more complex clinical situation in order to develop better targeted therapies. 15. The use of formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue and global gene expression profiling for increased understanding of squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue
Sammanfattning : Head and neck cancer is the 6th most common malignancy worldwide, with tumours of the tongue being one of the most prevalent sites. Despite advances in surgery and radiotherapy, the five-year survival has not changed during the last decades and remains at approximately 50%. LÄS MER
