1. Effect of timing training in golf and soccer players : skill, movement organization, and brain activity
Sammanfattning : Background Although trainers and athletes consider ‘good timing skills’ to be critical for optimal sport performance, little is known in regard to how sport-specific skills may benefit from timing training. Thus, assuming that all motor performances are mediated by an internal timing mechanism, enhanced motor timing is expected to have positive effects on both planning and execution of movement performance, and consequently on complex sports actions as golf or soccer. 2. Exploring models of time processing : effects of training and modality, and the relationship with cognition in rhythmic motor tasks
Sammanfattning : Timing can be defined as the ability to perceive temporal sequences and regulate timed behaviors. As in other animals, our ability to make accurate time estimations is crucial in order to accomplish several activities. Organisms can process time over a wide range of durations ranging from microseconds to days. LÄS MER
3. Timing Matters : Wounding and entomopathogenic nematode infection kinetics
Sammanfattning : Over time, insects have developed complex strategies to defend themselves against presenting threats. However, in the evolutionary arms race of survival, pathogens have adapted to quickly overcome the immune response mounted by the host. LÄS MER
4. Issues in Urban Travel Demand Modelling : ICT Implications and Trip timing choice
Sammanfattning : Travel demand forecasting is essential for many decisions, such as infrastructure investments and policy measures. Traditionally travel demand modelling has considered trip frequency, mode, destination and route choice. This thesis considers two other choice dimensions, hypothesised to have implications for travel demand forecasting. LÄS MER
5. Understanding West African Monsoon Variability : Insights from Paleoclimate Modelling of Past Warm Climates
Sammanfattning : The Sahel, a water-vulnerable region in West Africa, relies heavily on rainfed agriculture. The region experienced pronounced droughts during the 20th Century, emphasising the socio-economic importance of understanding the drivers of the rainfall variability. LÄS MER
