  1. 1. Cycles of voles, predators, and alternative prey in boreal Sweden

    Detta är en avhandling från Umeå : Umeå universitet

    Författare :Birger Hörnfeldt; Umeå universitet.; [1991]
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; 3-4 year cycles; Clethrionomys glareolus; Clethrionomys rufocanus; Microtus agrestis; snap-trapping; rate of change; population regulation; delayed density-dependence; time-lag mechanism; seasonality; predation; food; predator avoidance; foraging behaviour; Aegolius funereus; nest boxes; numerical response; nomadism; Vulpes vulpes; Sarcoptes scabiei vulpes; Lepus timidus; Francisella tularensis; Tetraonidae; hunting statistics; zooekologi; Animal Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : Bank voles, grey-sided voles, and field voles had synchronous 3-4 year density cycles with variable amplitudes which averaged about 200-fold in each species. Cycles of vole predators (red fox and Tengmalm's owl), and their (foxes') alternative prey (mountain hare and forest grouse) lagged behind the vole cycles. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Surgical trauma, inflammation and tissue injury

    Detta är en avhandling från Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, -

    Författare :Leif Törkvist; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [1999]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Activated partial thromboplastin time; blood flow; blood pressure; CD18; calcitonin gene-related peptide; dalteparin; glucocorticoids; heparin; intravital microscopy; leukotrienes; myeloperoxidase; neutrophils; stress; surgical flaps; rat;

    Sammanfattning : Surgical tissue trauma is a strong stimulus for local inflammation, including leukocyte recruitment. While such a response may be of importance for the defense against microorganisms, it is also clear that inflammation may contribute to further tissue injury. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Pharmacological and Developmental Aspects on Neuronal Plasticity

    Detta är en avhandling från Linköping : Linköping University Electronic Press

    Författare :Lisa Bjartmar; Linköpings universitet.; Linköpings universitet.; [2009]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Neuronal plasticity means the ability of the brain, its cells and networks to adapt and adjust to new challenges, a process which is ongoing throughout life. The goal of this thesis was to gain better understanding of the molecular events that follow different types of stimulations of brain structures such as the hippocampus, a key region for cognitive functions with overriding control on the corticosteroid system.
