  1. 1. Down syndrome : Growth and endocrine impact

    Författare :Åsa Myrelid; Jan Gustafsson; Göran Annerén; Ann-Christine Lindgren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Down syndrome; growth; growth charts; body proportions; growth hormone; thyroid function; metabolism; body composition; cognition; motor development; Downs syndrom; tillväxt; tillväxtkurvor; kroppsproportioner; tillväxthormon; sköldkörtelfunktion; metabolism; kroppssammansättning; kognitiv förmåga; motorisk utveckling; Paediatric medicine; Pediatrisk medicin; pediatrik; Pediatrics;

    Sammanfattning : Down syndrome (DS) is associated with psychomotor retardation, short stature and endocrine dysfunction. Statural growth is a well-known indicator of health. The growth in DS differs markedly from that of other children and there is a 20 cm reduction of final height as compared to target height. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Mechanisms of Growth Hormone Signal Transduction - Studies on the insulin-like metabolic effects in primary rat adipocytes

    Författare :Hans Eriksson; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Fysiologi; Endocrinology; Growth hormone insulin receptor phosphorylation phosphotyrosine cAMP phosphodiesterase phospholipid JAK2 rat adipocyte lipolysis lipogenesis; Physiology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Sammanfattning : Growth hormone (GH) exerts growth-promoting and metabolic effects in mammals. The metabolic effects of GH in adipose tissue are insulin-antagonistic or insulin-like. Cells that just have been exposed to GH are insensitive to the hormone. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Childhood malignant disease and consequences for growth hormone secretion, intellectual function and cardiovascular risk

    Författare :Katarina Link; Lund Medicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Growth hormone deficiency; Insulin sensitivity; Cranial radiotherapy; Neuropsychological performance; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Acute Lymphoblastic leukemia; diabetologi; sekretion; Endokrinologi;

    Sammanfattning : In childhood onset growth hormone deficiency (GHD) a reduction in cardiac left ventricular mass (LVMi) and impairment of cardiac systolic function, as well as in glomerular filtration rate (GFR) has been shown. In study I, we showed that a low dose of GH treatment for 10 months resulted in increased LVMi and kidney size. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Bioprocess Monitoring and Control in Pseudomonas cepacia and recombinant Escherichia coli cultivations

    Författare :Anita Tocaj; LTH Ingenjörshögskolan vid Campus Helsingborg; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; protein L; expanded bed; flow-injection analysis; recombinant protein production; acetic acid; on-line measurements; Pseudomonas cepacia; recombinant Escherichia coli; Fed-batch cultivations; control strategies; xylanase deletion derivatives from Rhodothermus marinus; Biotechnology; Bioteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The control of cultivation conditions and its influence on growth and production have been investigated. The use of fed-batch processes have been demonstrated for several cultivation systems and so has the use of different control signals in these systems. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Aspects of T cell development contributing to autoimmunity

    Författare :Maria Carlsén; Diabetes - immunovirologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; FTOC; T cell development; Type 1 diabetes; p53; Insulin; NOD; Negative selection; TGF-β; Tolerance; Thymus; Conditional cre lox knock out; Autoimmunity;

    Sammanfattning : Autoimmunity, such as type 1 diabetes (T1D), arises as a result of tolerance breakdown against host tissues, i.e. the β-cells. Central tolerance is established during thymic T cell development and defects in key events during this process could contribute to the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases. LÄS MER
