  1. 6. Studies on CAR and CLMP : two proteins of epithelial tight junctions

    Författare :Elisabeth Raschperger; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Tight junctions are important structures for the function of epithelial cells. They are composed of multi-protein complexes that connect the plasma membranes of two adjacent epithelial cells to each other and function as paracellular barriers, which regulate flux of ions, solutes, proteins and cells across the epithelium. 2. 7. Studies of Tight Junctions and Airway Surface Liquid in Airway Epithelium with Relevance to Cystic Fibrosis

    Författare :Harriet Nilsson; Godfried M Roomans; Anca Dragomir; Marie Johannesson; Olafur Baldurson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a multi-organ autosomal recessive disease of fluid-transporting epithelia, due to a mutation in the gene coding for the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) protein. CFTR is a cAMP-regulated Cl-channel involved in various regulatory processes. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Applications of organ culture of the mouse inner ear

    Författare :Diana Berggren; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; organ culture; embryonic inner ear; intercellular junctions; aminoglycosides; statoacoustic ganglion; intermediate filaments; collagen; endolymph;

    Sammanfattning : The embryonic mouse inner ear was used as a model with which to study ototoxicity and tissue interactions. The inner ear anlage can be explanted and cultured in vitro from about the 12th gestational day (gd), and will differentiate parallel with the inner ear developing in vivo until a time corresponding to birth (21st gd). 4. 9. Genetic and molecular regulation of epithelial tube morphogenesis

    Författare :Anna Tonning; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :epithelial tube morphogenesis; trachea; Drosophila; chitin; chitin synthase; apical extracellular matrix; paracellular diffusion barrier; tube expansion; septate junctions;

    Sammanfattning : Networks of epithelial tubes, such as the vertebrate lung, kidney and vascular system, enable transport of gases and nutrients to all tissues in the body. These tubes are built up by a single layer of polarized epithelial cells, with the apical membrane facing the lumen. LÄS MER

  5. 10. The Human Spiral Ganglion

    Författare :Sven Tylstedt; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Otorhinolaryngology; human spiral ganglion; ultrastructural morphology; neural interaction; synaptophysin; connexin; membrane specializations; synapse; gap junction; tight junction; Otorhinolaryngologi; Otorhinolaryngology; Otorhinolaryngologi; Oto-Rhino-Laryngology; oto-rhino-laryngologi;

    Sammanfattning : Our knowledge of the fine structure of the Human Spiral Ganglion (HSG) is still inadequate and new treatment techniques for deafness using electric stimulation, call for further information and studies on the neuronal elements of the human cochlea. This thesis presents results of analyses of human cochlear tissue and specimens obtained during neurosurgical transpetrosal removal of life-threatening meningeomas. LÄS MER
