1. Developing knee joint osteoarthritis: Clinical, radiographical and biochemical features
Sammanfattning : The aim of this project was to study clinical, radiographical and biochemical features of developing, symptomatic knee osteoarthritis (OA) prospectively in individuals aged 35-54 from the general population. A questionnaire to a random sample of 2 000 individuals in the district of Laholm, Sweden, identified 279 individuals (15% of the population) with chronic (>3 months) knee pain. LÄS MER
2. Radiography and bone scintigraphy in osteoarthritis of the knee: comparison with MR imaging
Sammanfattning : The aim was to compare radiography of the tibiofemoral joint (TFJ) and the patellofemoral joint (PFJ), as well as bone scinigraphy with MR imaging in middle-aged individuals with chronic knee pain in the format of a prospective study of knee osteoarthritis. Individuals aged 35-54 years with chronic knee pain were identified. LÄS MER
3. Motion analysis of the knee : kinematic artifacts, EMG normalisation and joint forces
Sammanfattning : The non-contact anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury is the most common and serious debilitating knee joint injury in male and female athletes. To create an ACL injury paradigm that will lead to improved treatment and prevention it is necessary to understand how ACL injuries occur. LÄS MER
4. Knee joint kinematics and the effects of arthropasty component design
Sammanfattning : Aims: To evaluate the influence of medial osteoarthritis on knee joint kinematics and the effect of design in total knee replacements (TKR) on the kinematics of trunk, hip, knee and ankle. Associations between articulating surface design, clinical outcome and fixation of the tibial component were also evaluated. LÄS MER
5. The normal and ACL deficient knee : an in vivo three dimensional kinematic and electromyographic analysis
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to describe the in-vivo 3D kinematics of the normal and ACL deficient knee. Baseline data from normal controls were compared against the pathological knee to assess whether generic functional knee braces reduced abnormal displacements. Moreover, 3D bony contact movements were derived from MRI data. LÄS MER
