11. A prospective chohort study on bone formation and bone loss in ankylosing spondylitis
Sammanfattning : Background and objectives: Patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) have an increased risk of bone loss with development of osteoporosis and vertebral fractures (VFs) but also spinal new bone formation with growth of bony spurs (syndesmophytes) between the vertebrae. Measurements of spinal bone mineral density (BMD) by the routine method dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) in anteroposterior (AP) projection can be difficult to interpret due to the spinal new bone formation. 12. On efficacy of implant thread design for bone stimulation
Sammanfattning : Introduction – The mechanism and efficiency of force transfer by dental implants to surrounding biologic tissues are important determinants in the development of the implant-to-bone/tissue interface and implant longevity. Threads are used to improve the initial stability by maximizing bone contact through an enlarged implant surface area and thereby favor distribution of interfacial stresses. LÄS MER
13. Improved titanium and steel implants : Studies on bisphosphonate, strontium and surface treatments
Sammanfattning : Purpose: The general aim of this thesis was to increase the understanding of biomaterial surface modifications and local delivery of osteoporosis drugs for bone integration. We therefore (i) characterised and investigated model surface coatings for controlled drug delivery in a rat tibia screw model (ii) elucidated the effect of surface treatment for activation of complement system in vitro. 14. Orthopaedic measurements with computed radiography. Methodological development, accuracy, and radiation dose with special reference to the weight-bearing lower extremity and the dislocating patella
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this study was to develop and evaluate a measurement system for computed radiography (CR) and Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS), permitting measurements of long distances and angles in and between related images. The developed measurement system, which was based on the QUESTOR Precision Radiography (QPR) system, was applied to the weight-bearing knee with special reference to the dislocating patella. LÄS MER
15. On New Implants - The results of five prospective, randomized RSA trials with aspects on phased introduction and continuous migration
Sammanfattning : A concern that arises with any change in design or operative technique is whether it affects the long-term implant stability or not. One way to address this is, by measuring early micromotion, to predict the future revision rate. LÄS MER
