  1. 1. Phenotypic and functional analysis of the mesenchymal stromal cell compartment in the thymus

    Författare :Katarzyna Sitnik; Slemhinnans immunologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; thymus; mesenchymal cells; retinoic acid; thymic epithelial cells;

    Sammanfattning : T cells are key cellular components of the adaptive immune system that play a critical role in our defense against pathogens and cancer but also contribute to pathology in the setting of chronic inflammation and autoimmunity. The thymus constitutes the body's major T cell production site, where bone marrow-derived progenitors migrate in a co-ordinated fashion through anatomically distinct cortical and medullary regions that are composed of epithelial and mesenchymal stromal elements. 2. 2. Myasthenia gravis : clinical aspects and possible involvement of prolactin

    Författare :Natalia Tsinzerling; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :myasthenia gravis; prolactin; immune regulation; thymic pathology; thymoma; immunosuppressive treatment;

    Sammanfattning : Myasthenia gravis (MG) is an autoimmune disease characterized by the production of antibodies against the skeletal muscle acetylcholine receptor (AChR). MG is usually associated with thymic disorders including thymoma (about 10%) and lymphofollicular hyperplasia (HPL) (up to 80%). LÄS MER

  3. 3. Rho-GTPases in Rheumatoid Arthritis

    Författare :Eric Malmhäll-Bah; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Rho-GTPases; rheumatoid arthritis; innate immunity; adaptive immunity; RA treatment;

    Sammanfattning : The success of alleviating rheumatoid arthritis (RA) symptoms is complicated by both heterogeneity of the disease and lack of predictive markers to guide treatment options. Deregulated Rho-GTPases, a family of hydrolase enzymes catalyzing guanosine triphospate (GTP) to guanosine diphospate (GDP), have a detrimental role in many diseases including RA. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Immunological, vascular and metabolic actions of androgens

    Författare :Marta Lantero Rodriguez; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; androgens; androgen receptor; immune system; atherosclerosis; abdominal aortic aneurysm; brown fat; mice;

    Sammanfattning : Men have higher prevalence of cardiovascular disease (CVD) but lower risk of autoimmune disorders than women. The actions of sex steroids may be involved in the sexual dimorphism of these diseases. Although testosterone, the main androgen, seems to protect against autoimmunity, its role in CVD is contradictory and disease-dependent. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Investigation of T cell driven arthritis induced by mannan in ZAP70 mutated SKG mice

    Författare :Simon Guérard; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Autoimmune diseases are particularly challenging to study in human due to their complex multifactorial nature. In rheumatoid arthritis (RA), self-reactivity directed against joints leads to pain, tissue destruction and eventually invalidity if left untreated. LÄS MER
