  1. 1. Moving thresholds : body narratives within the vicinity of gym and fitness culture

    Författare :Greta Bladh; Jesper Andreasson; Linda Sandberg; Åsa Bäckström; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; gender; gym and fitness; thresholds; body narrative; vulnerable inclusiveness; genusvetenskap; gender studies; Sociology; sociologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates thresholds that impede bodies from moving to, and within, gym and fitness sites. Thresholds are here understood as gendered social constructs and norms, which direct bodies in certain ways, and thus circumscribing potential movements and capabilities. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Green Buildings : Exploring performance and thresholds

    Författare :Magnus Bonde; Svante Mandell; Partick McAllister; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Green Buildings; Energy-Efficient Buildings; EPC; Indoor Environment Quality IEQ ; Real Options Analyses ROA ; Real-Estate Economics; Real Estate and Construction Management; Fastigheter och byggande;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this research project is to study green/energy-efficient real estate from an economic perspective. The thesis summarizes the results from five different studies with a connection to green/energy-efficient real estate. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Assessment of Aerobic Capacity A Novel Rating Scale and Further Development of an Exercise Test including Analysis of Gas Exchange

    Författare :Anita Wisén; Människan i rörelse: hälsa och rehabilitering; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; kinesitherapy; revalidation; rehabilitation; Rehabilitering medicinsk och social ; Physical medicine; Time constant of V O2; Cycle ergometer; Perceived Capacity; Perceived exertion; Heart rate; Oxygen uptake; Reference values; Oxygen kinetics; Repeatability; Thresholds;

    Sammanfattning : Different methods are proposed to assess the aerobic capacity. A novel scale, rating of perceived capacity (RPC) based on metabolic equivalents (METs) from 1 to 20, is presented. Selected MET values are linked to physical activities. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Methodological aspects and usefulness of Quantitative Sensory Testing in early small fiber polyneuropathy : a clinical study in Swedish hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis patients

    Författare :Victoria Heldestad; Erik Nordh; Ole Suhr; Göran Solders; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Amyloidosis; cold thresholds; heart rate variability; method-of-limits; quantitative sensory testing; transthyretine; warm thresholds; Clinical Neurophysiology; klinisk neurofysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Generalised polyneuropathy (PNP) is a common cause to neurological impairment, and may be an early symptom of a severe systemic disease. One such illness is hereditary transthyretin (TTR) amyloidosis (ATTR), a progressive fatal disorder caused by a mutation on the TTR gene. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The palaeolimnological record of regime shifts in lakes in response to climate change

    Författare :Linda Randsalu Wendrup; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; palaeolimnology; regime shifts; thresholds; alternative stable states; climate change; ecosystem dynamics; diatoms; hydrocarbons; monitoring; lake sediments; shallow lakes; 8.2 ka event;

    Sammanfattning : Regime shifts in lake ecosystems can occur in response to both abrupt and continuous climate change, and the imprints they leave in palaeolimnological records allow us to investigate and better understand patterns and processes governing ecological changes on geological time scales. This thesis aims at investigating palaeolimnological records of regime shifts in lakes during the Holocene to explore how lake ecosystems responded to climate changes and anthropogenic activities and to identify thresholds or tipping points that produced regime shifts.
