  1. 1. On random satisfiability and optimization problems

    Författare :Joel Larsson; Klas Markström; Roland Häggkvist; Victor Falgas Ravry; Stefanie Gerke; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Random graphs; k-SAT; satisfiability; coupon collector; random cover time; threshold phenomenon; concentration of measure; combinatorial probability; perfect matching; assignment problem; local graph limit; mean-field; Mathematics; matematik;

    Sammanfattning : In Paper I, we study the following optimization problem: in the complete bipartite graph where edges are given i.i.d. weights of pseudo-dimension q>0, find a perfect matching with minimal total weight. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the functions of prevalent threshold-like spaces such as windows, stairs, doors or balconies in theatre plays from the height of the Romantic era in France (1828-1835). The study coins the concept of « para-espaces » (para-spaces) and elucidates the way they mediate between different divisions of the spatiotemporal structure of a play. LÄS MER

  3. 3. On the threshold of adulthood : Recurrent phenomena and developmental tasks during the period of young adulthood

    Författare :Gunnel Jacobsson; Siv Boalt Boëthius; Andrzej Werbart; Harriet Bjerrum Nielsen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Young adults; Strains in life; Gender; Developmental tasks; Depression; Daydreaming; Narrative; Psychoanalytic theory; Education; Pedagogik;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of the dissertation is to investigate the own narratives told by young adults in the age group 18 to 25 years old about strains in life, ideas about the background to these, and attitudes now and in an imagined future. The emerging recurrent phenomena form the basis for a deeper understanding of the developmental tasks of young adults. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Incentives in Education and Moral Behavior in Groups

    Författare :Pol Campos-Mercade; Nationalekonomiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Field experiment; Academic performance; Threshold incentives; Lab experiment; Moral action; Group size; Bystander effect; Volunteer s dilemma; Social preferences;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis uses field experiments, lab experiments, and theory to study questions that are relevant to the fields of education and behavioral economics.The first paper, Threshold Incentives and Academic Performance, begins with the observation that students often face incentives to reach performance thresholds. 5. 5. Risk of hearing loss from combined exposure to hand-arm vibrations and noise

    Författare :Hans Pettersson; Lage Burström; Tohr Nilsson; Kerstin Persson Waye; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hearing loss; noise; hand-arm vibration; combined exposure; vibration induced white fingers; Raynaud s phenomenon; Occupational and Environmental Medicine; arbets- och miljömedicin;

    Sammanfattning : Hearing loss from noise exposure is one of the most common occupational injuries, and exposure to vibrations may increase the risk of noise-induced hearing loss. Earlier cross-sectional and longitudinal studies found an increased risk of noise-induced hearing loss among workers with vibration-induced white fingers (VWF) symptoms compared to workers without such symptoms.
