    Sammanfattning : Stress has emerged as one of the most important factors to consider in psychiatric diagnoses and has become a common reason for long-term sick leave (LTSL). Roughly 50% of LTSL due to psychiatric diseases are thought to be associated with work-related stress. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Brain anatomical correlates of perceptual phonological proficiency and language learning aptitude

    Författare :Mikael Novén; Allmän språkvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prosody; word accent; MRI; language learning aptitude; cortical morphometry; diffusion kurtosis imaging;

    Sammanfattning : The present dissertation concerns how brain tissue properties reflect proficiency in two aspects of language use: the ability to use tonal cues on word stems to predict how words will end and the aptitude for learning foreign languages. While it is known that people differ in their language abilities and that damage to brain tissue cause loss of cognitive functions, it is largely unknown if differences in language proficiencies correlate with differences in brain structure. Sammanfattning : Food hoarding is a widespread behavior among a large number of animals, and it exists in several different varieties, all of them used by the animals as a method of having a steady supply of food during periods of low food abundance such as the winter. This thesis concentrates mainly on two aspects of scatter food hoarding behavior, using small birds as study and model animals. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Regulation of gene expression in fruit flies : how does it start, and will it be remembered?

    Sammanfattning : One of the most distinctive features of eukaryotic chromosomes is the bundling of DNA together with functionally associated RNA and proteins in chromatin. This allows huge amounts of DNA to be packed inside the very tiny space of the nucleus, and alterations in the structure of chromatin enable access to the DNA for transcription (“reading” genes by production of RNA copies).
