11. Pharmacological and genetic modulation of adult neurogenesis in animal models relevant to neuropsychiatric disorders
Sammanfattning : During the past decade, the modulation of adult neurogenesis has been an intensively studied area of neuroscience due to the implications for understanding of physiological mechanisms in the adult brain and the potential clinical applications for neuropsychiatric disorders. This research has resulted in countless discoveries during a relatively short period of time elucidating mechanistic details about where adult neurogenesis takes place, how the process of neurogenesis occurs and how this process can be regulated at several different steps by, not only endogenous mechanisms which normally maintain a homeostasis of adult neurogenesis, but also by exogenous regulation using genetic and pharmacological modulations to manipulate steps of the process. 12. Hereditary Breast Cancer in South Sweden. Early findings from studies on the role of BRCA1
Sammanfattning : The thesis presents the results from investigations into the role of BRCA1 in hereditary cancer in South Sweden. Loss of heterozygosity (LOH) studies found loss of the wildtype allele of BRCA1 to be common in BRCA1 associated breast cancer, but due to the high degree of LOH on chr. LÄS MER

14. The Proportionality Principle as a Tool for Disintegration in EU Law – of Balancing and Coherence in the Light of the Fundamental Freedoms
Sammanfattning : This thesis analyses the operations of the principle of proportionality when the Court of Justice reviews national measures that restrict the fundamental freedoms laid down in the EU Treaties. That judicial review often entails balancing of rights, and this study is a quest for coherence in the adjudication of different, and at times perplexing legal norms, of various national and international origins Many have held that the principle of proportionality is applied in EU law as a tool for integration. 15. Endothelial dysfunction in atherosclerosis and type 2 diabetes : clinical and molecular studies of the role of endothelin and arginase
Sammanfattning : Background: Atherosclerosis is a modern world scourge and the number of people worldwide diagnosed with type 2 diabetes (T2D) is on the rise, causing much morbidity and mortality. Endothelial dysfunction (ED) is an early sign of atherosclerosis and contributes to vascular complications in T2D. LÄS MER
