1. Polymers in Aqueous Lubrication
Sammanfattning : The main objective of this thesis work was to gain understanding of the layer properties and polymer structures that were able to aid lubrication in aqueous media. To this end, three types of polyelectrolytes: a diblock copolymer, a train-of-brushes and two brush-with-anchor mucins have been utilized. LÄS MER
2. Thermoresponsive cellulose-based composites by polymer modification
Sammanfattning : The interest in utilizing cellulose based materials has grown rapidly in recent years, due to the growing environmental concerns about utilizing fossil based material. One potential application of cellulose is in thermoresponsive materials, which are attracting attention due to their ability of altering conformation when exposed to changes in external temperature. 3. A microfluidic toolbox to fabricate, sort and characterize thermoresponsive colloidal molecules and their assemblies
Sammanfattning : In this thesis we discuss the assembly of thermoresponsive microgel particles into small clusters, and their use as colloidal molecules with specific and directional interactions. The underlying goal is to use these particles as advanced building blocks for new types of self- assembled structures with novel or vastly improved properties, and as model particles for investigating fundamental problems in condensed matter physics. 4. Versatile Association Behavior in Mixtures of Oppositely Charged Amphiphiles : From DNA-Like Assembly of Supramolecular Helices to Coacervation in Chiral Surfactant Systems
Sammanfattning : As biological surfactants, bile salts (BSs), play important roles in biological processes, i.e., food digestion, but also in BS-related diseases, as well as in applications. LÄS MER
5. Fluids, Gels and Crystals : Phase behavior of binary thermoresponsive microgel mixtures
Sammanfattning : Thermoresponsive colloidal microgels expel solvent from their interior upon crossing a threshold temperature, resulting in a significantly reduced size. The collapse of microgels can reversibly switch the interparticle interactions from soft repulsive to attractive, and the accompanying size reduction allows for precise control over volume fraction.
