1. Analysis of thermal shock in brittle materials
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns thermal shock damage of ceramicmaterials. More specifically the work is focused on theoreticaland practical aspects of a new technique for determining thethermal shock resistance of brittle materials. LÄS MER
2. Hardening of Carbon Steel by Water Impinging Jet Quenching Technique : Differential Cooling of Steel Sheets and Quenching of Cylindrical Bars
Sammanfattning : Austenitization followed by quenching is a well-known conventional heat-treating procedure which is widely used on carbon steels with the aim to obtain high strength in as-quenched condition. Such quenching is usually done by immersing a steel product into the cooling medium which provides a uniform cooling of the surface. LÄS MER
3. Thermal shock and thermal fatigue in ceramic materials
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns thermal stress fracture in ceramicmaterials. The work describes a new technique for determiningthe thermal shock resistance of brittle materials as well asexperimental results and thermal stress simulations. LÄS MER
4. Partitioned methods for time-dependent thermal fluid-structure interaction
Sammanfattning : The efficient simulation of thermal interaction between fluids and structures is crucial in the design of many industrial products, e.g. turbine blades or rocket nozzles. LÄS MER
5. Understanding the interactions between vibrational modes and excited state relaxation in garnet structured phosphors
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns investigations of the local structural environments and vibrational dynamics of the three garnet type oxide phosphors Ce3+-doped Y3Al5O12 (YAG:Ce3+), Ca3Sc2Si3O12 (CSS:Ce3+), and Sr3Y2Ge3O12 (SYG:Ce3+), which show promising optical properties as luminescent materials used in solid state white lighting technologies. The study focuses on a comprehensive analysis of the nature of the long-range vibrations (phonons) in terms of local atomic and molecular motions of the garnet structure, as well as their dependence on the nature of the garnet chemical composition, Ce3+ concentration and temperature.
