1. Chemical signalling in the Drosophila brain : GABA, short neuropeptide F and their receptors
Sammanfattning : Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and short neuropeptide F (sNPF) are widespread signalling molecules in the brain of insects. In order to understand more about the signalling and to some extent start to unravel the functional roles of these two substances, this study has examined the locations of the transmitters and their receptors in the brain of the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster using immunocytochemistry in combination with Gal4/UAS technique. 2. In the Company of Ghosts : Hauntology, Ethics, Digital Monsters
Sammanfattning : This thesis explores French philosopher Jacques Derrida’s ’hauntology’ through the lens of digital monsters and feminist theory.Hauntology – a pun on ‘ontology’ and ‘haunting’ – offers an ethics based on responsibility towards that which cannot be said to fully exist, yet has an effect on our everyday lives nonetheless. 3. The paralemmin protein family : Phosphoproteins involved in filopodia and dendritic spine formation
Sammanfattning : Dendritic spines, which connect neurons with each other, constitute most of the excitatory synapses and undergo experience-dependent neuronal plasticity. The function of dendritic spines and their synaptic strength are highly correlated with morphological changes. LÄS MER
4. Full circle : Rise and fate of genetic variation in Marasmius oreades fairy rings
Sammanfattning : Genetic variation is a prerequisite for evolution. The degree of variability within a species is governed by forces including mutation, recombination and selection. LÄS MER
5. Fungal taxonomy and systematics in the digital era, with an outlook on the cantharelloid clade (Basidiomycota)
Sammanfattning : Fungi form a large and ubiquitous group of organisms where species identification and delimitation on morphological grounds often fall short. DNA sequences have proved an invaluable information source for these pursuits and are now routinely used in most mycological laboratories. LÄS MER
