    Sammanfattning : The overall objective of this study is to examine why the arbetsstuga unlike other philanthropic projects, did not survive the introduction and establishment of the Swedish welfare state. The aim formulated for arbetsstugor by their initiators was to provide meaningful after-school activities for the poorest children between seven and fourteen years of age who attended public elementary schools.     Sammanfattning : In a time when the pursuit of equivalent quality is high on the Swedish ECEC (Early Childhood Education and Care) policyagenda, teachers’ responsibilities for evaluating educational practice, based on documentations of individual children’sdevelopment and learning, is emphasised. To aid teachers in this work, the Swedish National Agency of Education published anddistributed a support material promoting ‘pedagogical documentation’ as a tool and a method for documentation and evaluation,framed within a so called postconstructionist/posthumanist theoretical framework. With the foundation of the Swedish Fröbel Association’s journal Barnträdgården (Kindergarten), knowledge and ideas about the kindergarten movement and its activities could be disseminated to kindergarten teachers in Sweden and throughout the Nordic region.
