  1. 1. The enterocyte in small intestinal adaption : an experimental and clinicopathological study with special reference to the ultrastructure of the brush border

    Författare :Roger Stenling; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Scanning electron microscopy; transmission electron microscopy; stereology;

    Sammanfattning : The small intestine mucosa is known to be able to adapt itself to several kinds of both physiological and pathological conditions. The adaptive patterns of the structure of the enterocytes, particularly their apical surface (brush border), were studied in three models: (1) in rats, subjected to antrectomy or antral exclusion, combined with gastroduodenostomy and gastrojejunostomy; (2) in rats with alloxan diabetes; (3) in children with coeliac disease; a) in its active phase; b) after long-term treatment with gluten-free diets; c) after long-term challenge with dietary gluten following treatment; d) after short-term elimination of dietary gluten. 2. 2. On the recent Arctic Warming

    Författare :Rune Grand Graversen; Michael Tjernström; Erland Källén; John Walsh; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Climate change; atmospheric energy transport; Meteorology; Meteorologi; atmosfärvetenskap; Atmospheric Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : The Arctic region attracts considerable scientific interest in these years. Some of the Earth's most pronounced signs of the recent climate change are found here. The summer sea-ice cover is shrinking at an alarming rate. At the same time the region warms faster than the rest of the globe. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Improvements of the Bromodeoxyuridine-DNA Flow Cytometry Method for the Study of Cell Proliferation

    Författare :Maria C Johansson; Bröstcancer-genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; head and neck cancer; [3H]thymidine; energy transfer; cell cycle; xenografted tumours; cultured cells; potential doubling time; labelling index; DNA synthesis time; cell proliferation; growth kinetics; Bromodeoxyuridine; DNA flow cytometry; cancer; onkologi; Cytologi; cancerology; oncology; Cytology;

    Sammanfattning : Potential doubling time (Tpot), DNA synthesis time (TS), and labelling index (LI) are fundamental growth kinetics parameters in clinical and experimental cancer research, which may be of further practical importance regarding prognosis and treatment prediction of cancer. They can be measured by bromodeoxyuridine(BrdUrd)/flow cytometry (FCM) methods, where BrdUrd, an analogue of thymidine, is incorporated into DNA and quantified simultaneously with the DNA content. 4. 4. Linking Chains Together : String Bits and the Bethe Ansatz

    Författare :Martin Lübcke; Konstantin Zarembo; Antti Niemi; Matthias Staudacher; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Theoretical physics; theoretical physics; string theory; string bit; Bethe ansatz; Teoretisk fysik; Physics; Fysik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is divided into two parts. In the first part we focus mainly on certain aspects of the AdS/CFT correspondence. The AdS/CFT correspondence is a proposed duality between Type IIB superstring theory on AdS5 x S5 and N = 4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Variability and feedbacks in the middle atmosphere

    Författare :Maartje Kuilman; Bodil Karlsson; Qiong Zhang; Hauke Schmidt; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Middle atmosphere dynamics; noctilucent clouds; solar cycle effects; climate feedbacks; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Sammanfattning : The importance of the middle atmosphere for the weather and climate on Earth is increasingly realized. Variability and feedback processes in the middle atmosphere need to be better understood and form the subject of this thesis. LÄS MER
