    Sammanfattning : This study deals with neo-shamanism, a set of notions and techniques that originated in the non-Western tribal societies and, within the framework of New Age spirituality, were adapted for the life of contemporary urban dwellers. Neo-shamanic practices are based on consciousness-altering techniques, when the Self is perceived to leave the body, to journey in other realities and to interact with the spiritual beings, enlisting their help for social, psychological, and physical healing.     Sammanfattning : Drawing on two periods of ethnographic fieldwork in Vedado, Havana, in 2004–2007, this dissertation analyses the interconnections between gender, sexuality, and heterosexuality. With theoretical inspiration from the works of Stevi Jackson and Beverley Skeggs, it discusses how the logics underlying heterosexual relations also regulate hierarchical gendered ideals. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : In Cuba, from the early twentieth century up until today, the Afro-Cuban religious tradition santería has stood for health, protection, and a meaningful life for many Cubans. Santería, which has its roots in Africa and the religious beliefs of the Yoruba slaves, is currently flourishing, with both Cubans and foreigners turning to it for help in instances of ill-health.
