1. Forest – stream linkages : Brown trout (Salmo trutta) responses to woody debris, terrestrial invertebrates and light
Sammanfattning : Forests surrounding streams affect aquatic communities in numerous ways, contributing to energy fluxes between terrestrial and lotic ecosystems. The five papers in this thesis focus on woody debris, terrestrial invertebrates and light, three factors influenced by riparian zone structure, potentially affecting streams and brown trout (Salmo trutta). 2. Sub-lethal Effects of Anthropogenic Contaminants on Aquatic Invertebrates
Sammanfattning : Anthropogenic contaminants are considered to play a substantial role in the decline of freshwater invertebrate diversity. Sub-lethal effects of many of these contaminants on behaviour and life-history traits of aquatic invertebrates may contribute to their decline. LÄS MER
3. Benthic cryptofauna and internal bioeroders on coral reefs
Sammanfattning : The cryptofauna of coral reefs may act as a food source for fish, while being grazers or predators themselves, and hence constitute an important group in the coral reef food web. In addition, the actively eroding taxa of the cryptofauna contribute to the decomposition and recirculation of calcium carbonate and are consequently essential for the rebuilding new coral. LÄS MER
4. Forest-stream linkages : Experimental studies of foraging and growth of brown trout (Salmo trutta L)
Sammanfattning : Riparian vegetation along streams and rivers affects the aquatic community in numerous ways and often operates as a link for energy flux between forest and streams. The studies presented in this licentiate thesis focus on light and terrestrial invertebrates, two factors influenced by riparian zone structure, which potentially affect stream ecosystems and thus also brown trout (Salmo trutta). 5. Botanical Repellents and Pesticides Traditionally Used Against Haematophagous Invertebrates in Lao PDR
Sammanfattning : Haematophagous parasites and disease vectors such as leeches, ticks, mites, lice, bed bugs, mosquitoes, and myiasis-causing fly larvae are common health problems in Lao Peoples Democratic Republic (Lao PDR). A main aim of my field work in Lao PDR in 2006-2010 was to document traditional knowledge among different ethnic groups about plants that people use to repel or to kill blood-feeding invertebrates.
