  1. 1. Stress in infants and parents : Studies of salivary cortisol, behaviour and psychometric measures

    Författare :Evalotte Mörelius; Nina Nelson; Elvar Theodorsson; Uwe Ewald; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Stress; Infants; Prematura childern; Intensive care; neonatal; saliva; Chemistry; Glucose; Hydrocortisone; Paediatric medicine; Pediatrisk medicin;

    Sammanfattning : The life of a preterm infant admitted to a neonatal intensive care unit may be stressful from the moment of birth. Ever since Hans Selye’s initial characterisation of the biological stress response, cortisol has been frequently measured as an indicator of stress responsivity. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Neutrophil Chemotaxis and Respiratory Burst in Term and Preterm Newborn Infants

    Författare :Maria Stålhammar; Richard Sindelar; Jens Schollin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :innate immunity; neutrophil; term newborn infants; preterm newborn infants; chemotaxis; respiratory burst; reactive oxygen species; cell surface receptor; IL-8; bacterial N-formyl peptide;

    Sammanfattning : Neutrophil activation is the most important initial immune defense against invading microbes in newborn infants. The reduced neutrophil migration and uncontrolled regulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) production observed in neonates, could result in a diminished infectious response or in tissue damage. 3. 3. Preterm Infants - Odontological Aspects

    Författare :Marianne Rythén; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Preterm infants; adolescent; oral hygiene; gingivitis; dental caries; dental enamel; malocclussion; dental arch; tooth size; enamel hypomineralization; dentine; polarized light microscopy; X-ray microanalysis;

    Sammanfattning : ABSTRACT Preterm birth is associated with medical complications and treatments postnatally and disturbances in growth and development. Primary and permanent teeth develop during this postnatal period. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Short- and Long-Term Follow-Up of Ophthalmological Findings in Preterm Infants and Children

    Författare :Eva Larsson; Gerd Holmström; Kristina Tornqvist; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Ophtalmology; prematurity; follow-up; retinopathy of prematurity; ROP; infants; children; incidence; screening; refraction; visual acuity; visual fields; Oftalmiatrik; Ophtalmology; Oftalmologi;

    Sammanfattning : In a prospective population-based study in Stockholm County, 1998-2000, the incidence of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) was investigated and was found to be 36% in prematurely-born infants with a birth weight of ≤ 1500 grams. Compared to a study performed ten years ago, the overall incidence was unchanged, but was reduced in “mature” infants and increased in immature ones. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Infants in Control : Prospective Motor Control and Executive Functions in Action Development

    Författare :Janna Gottwald; Gustaf Gredebäck; Claes von Hofsten; Daniela Corbetta; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :infant development; action development; prospective motor control; executive functions; action planning; motor development; motion tracking; embodied cognition; developmental psychology; Psychology; Psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis assesses the link between action and cognition early in development. Thus the notion of an embodied cognition is investigated by tying together two levels of action control in the context of reaching in infancy: prospective motor control and executive functions.
