  1. 6. Peakflow response of stream networks : implications of physical descriptions of streams and temporal change

    Författare :Anna Åkesson; Anders Wörman; Alberto Viglione; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Streamflow routing; peakflow predictions; parameterization; hydrological response; stage-dependency; flooded cross-sections; stream networks; backwater effects; temporal change; land use change; Civil and Architectural Engineering; Byggvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Through distributed stream network routing, it has quantitatively been shown that the relationship between flow travel time and discharge varies strongly nonlinearly with stream stage and with catchment-specific properties.Physically derived distributions of water travel times through a stream network were successfully used to parameterise the streamflow response function of a compartmental hydrological model. 2. 7. Modelling calving and sliding of Svalbard outlet glaciers : Spatio-temporal changes and interactions

    Författare :Dorothée Vallot; Rickard Pettersson; Veijo Pohjola; Ken Mattsson; Tómas Jóhannesson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cryospheric science; glacier modelling; time-lapse imagery; undercutting; sliding inversion; discrete particle model; calving model; subglacial hydrology; sliding law; automatic detection method; calving events size and frequency; ocean interaction; melt water runoff; ice dynamics; ice flow model; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot naturgeografi; Earth Science with specialization in Physical Geography;

    Sammanfattning : Future sea level rise associated to global warming is one of the greatest societal and environmental challenges of tomorrow. A large part of the contribution comes from glaciers and ice sheets discharging ice and meltwater into the ocean and the recent worldwide increase is worrying. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Nematic Liquid Crystal Spatial Light Modulators for Laser Beam Steering

    Författare :Emil Hällstig; Mikael Lindgren; Lars Sjöqvist; William Crossland; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; spatial light modulator; liquid crystal; beam steering; tracking; phase modulation; fringing field; director distribution; finite-difference time-domain; polarization; temporal properties; Fysik; Physics; Fysik;

    Sammanfattning : Laser beam control is important in many applications. Phase modulating spatial light modulators (SLMs) can be used to electronically alter the phase distribution of an optical wave-front and thus change the direction and shape of a laser beam. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Effect of Uncertainty of Rock Properties on Radionuclide Transport by Groundwater : Implications for Performance Assessments of the Repository of Spent Nuclear Fuel in Heterogeneous Bedrock

    Författare :Shulan Xu; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; Radionuclide migration; heterogeneous rock property; stochastic process spectral analysis; temporal moments; auto-covariance functions; sorption kinetics; performance assessment; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Sedimentology; sedimentologi;

    Sammanfattning : The overall objective of the current study is to develop a quantitative understanding of the effects of spatial variability in physical and geochemical properties of crystalline rock on the migration of radionuclides along a single fracture in bedrock. A stochastic model was developed to describe the transport of solutes in fractured rock. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Material perception and action : The role of material properties in object handling

    Författare :Kristin Ingvarsdottir; Kognitiv modellering; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; material perception; visual properties; motor planning; cognition; humanoid robot;

    Sammanfattning : This dissertation is about visual perception of material properties and their role in preparation for object handling. Usually before an object is touched or picked-up we estimate its size and shape based on visual features to plan the grip size of our hand. LÄS MER
