1. Use of neural progenitor cell lines and astrocytes for transplantation and gene transfer to the CNS
Sammanfattning : Intracerebral neuronal transplantation have been shown to ameliorate symptoms of brain dysfunction in both animals models and Parkinson's disease, although problems still remain. The newly introduced technique of ex vivo gene transfer could serve as an alternative approach, possible avoiding some of the draw-backs of the embryonal tissue used in neuronal grafting. LÄS MER
2. Physico-Chemical Investigations of Bilayer Discs and Related Lipid Structures Formed in Liposomal Systems Intended for Triggered Release
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes results from fundamental studies of liposomes intended for drug delivery and pH or temperature triggered release. In addition, the effect of lipid composition on bilayer disc formation and a potential application of the bilayer discs were investigated. LÄS MER
3. Skin-to-skin contact and suckling in early postpartum : effects on temperature, breastfeeding and mother-infant interaction
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to explore the role of closeness versus separation on infant and maternal temperature adaptation, breastfeeding outcome and mother-infant interaction. In addition, we aimed to study a potential influence of swaddling on all outcomes measured. LÄS MER
4. Decomposition of soil organic matter under a changing climate : a matter of efficiency?
Sammanfattning : Soil organic matter is the largest carbon (C) pool in the terrestrial C cycle, and soil CO₂ emissions surpass anthropogenic emissions from fossil fuel combustion by a factor of nine. Therefore, mechanisms controlling C stabilisation in soils and its feedback to climate change are widely debated. LÄS MER
5. Genetic analysis of genes found on the 4th chromosome of Drosophila - emphasizing the developmental context of Pax6
Sammanfattning : The small size and the lack of recombination set the fourth chromosome of Drosophila melanogaster apart from the other chromosomes. I have shown that the Minute gene on chromosome 4, earlier named Minute-4, encodes the ribosomal protein RpS3A. Two Pax6 genes, eyeless (ey) and twin of eyeless (toy) are also located on chromosome 4. LÄS MER
