1. The Eemian Interglacial at Sokli, northern Finland : A multi-proxy environmental and climatic reconstruction based on a 9 m long lacustrine sediment sequence
Sammanfattning : Understanding the fundamentals of the Earth’s climate system during the Quaternary Period (the past ca 2.6 million years) is of imminent interest in light of the reported recent climatic changes. LÄS MER
2. Reconstruction of flow and temperature from boundary data
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, we study Cauchy problems for elliptic and parabolic equations. These include the stationary Stokes system and the heat equation. Data are given on a part of the boundary of a bounded domain. The aim is to reconstruct the solution from these data. LÄS MER
3. Summer Climate Variability during the Past 1200 Years in Central Scandinavia – A Tree-Ring Perspective
Sammanfattning : To set the current 20th century warming in a long-term context, significant efforts have been made to reconstruct hemispheric-to-global temperatures beyond the instrumental period. Tree-rings, which have annual resolution and can be precisely dated, have been widely used to infer past climate variability. LÄS MER
4. Optical spectroscopy in biomedicine - detection of embedded inclusions and in vivo pharmacokinetics
Sammanfattning : The main theme of this thesis is the use of fluorescence spectroscopy in biomedicine. The work presented in the thesis can be divided into three areas of applications. The first area involves the use of fluorescence to find the location of a deeply situated fluorophore within turbid media. LÄS MER
5. The sensitivity of Swedish alpine lakes to hydro-climatic changes during the Late Holocene
Sammanfattning : The thesis objective is to use lake sediments to investigate the relationships between chironomids, as proxy for temperature, and δ18O and minerogenic in-wash, as precipitation proxies, in northern Sweden during the Late Holocene. Three lakes along a N–S transect in the Scandes were studied using biological, geochemical and physical sediment properties, together with numerical methods. LÄS MER
