2. Astrochemical Surface Science: Water Desorption from Nanostructured Graphite
Sammanfattning : To date, around 180 different molecules have been identified in the interstellar medium (ISM). Some of them form molecular ices on cold interstellar dust grain surfaces. An interstellar dust grain particle is in the order of nanometres in size and is usually composed of a carbonaceous or silicatious grain core. LÄS MER
3. Temperature programmed studies of molecular assemblies on gold
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates the properties of ultra-thin layers of organic molecules deposited at or adsorbed onto thin films of gold. The two main experimental techniques used in this thesis work are Temperature Programmed Desorption-Infrared Reflection Absorption Spectroscopy (TPD-IRAS), an excellent technique to probe the structure and orientation of molecular layers on metallic substrates, and Temperature Programmed Desorption-Mass Spectroscopy (TPD-MS), a very useful tool to study the energetics of molecular layers and adsorbates on solid surfaces. 4. Reactions on nanostructured and microporous surfaces
Sammanfattning : Interactions between surfaces and molecules play a central role in various fields where catalysis is one example. In order to understand different surface processes, physicochemical characterisation of the surface materials and molecules is required. LÄS MER
5. Partial Oxidation of Methane over Functionalised Zeolites and Zeotypes
Sammanfattning : Partial oxidation of methane to methanol is an industrially important process that allows natural gas and biogas to be utilised for methanol-based production of chemicals or converted to liquid methanol fuel, which make transportation more facile. In this thesis, the activity for partial oxidation of methane to methanol over copper functionalised zeolites and silica supported copper is investigated using a three-step quasi-catalytic approach including catalyst activation, methane reaction and methanol extraction by water.
