1. A Cosmic Quest for New Worlds. Characterising Exoplanet Signals via Radial Velocity and Transit Photometry
Sammanfattning : Since the first unambiguous detection of a planet around a Sun-like star, the interest in the new and exciting field of exoplanets has grown immensely. New and exciting developments are seen at a pace unparalleled for most subfields of astronomy. LÄS MER
2. Gravity Illustrated. Spacetime Edition
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with essentially four different topics within general relativity: pedagogical techniques for illustrating curved spacetime, inertial forces, gyroscope precession and optical geometry. Concerning the pedagogical techniques, I investigate two distinctly different methods, the dual and the absolute method. LÄS MER
3. From Photons to Worlds: An odyssey in exoplanet detection and characterisation
Sammanfattning : Since the first unambiguous detection of a planet around a Sun-like, the interest in the new and exciting field of exoplanets has grown immensely. New and exciting developments are seen at a pace unparalleled for most subfields of astronomy and astrophysics. LÄS MER
4. Method and technique development in peptide and protein mass Spectrometry
Sammanfattning : Mechanistic studies and applicability of several methods and techniques for studying peptides and proteins with mass spectrometry are presented. A model for the protein molecular ion formation in explosive matrix-assisted plasma desorption mass spectrometry is proposed, involving a contribution from the chemical energy release during conversion of the explosive, an enhanced protonation through collisions with products from the explosive decay, and electron scavenging by other products. 5. Visible spectroscopic diagnostics : application and development in fusion plasmas
Sammanfattning : Diagnostic measurements play a vital role in experiments. Without them we would be in the dark with no way of knowing what was happening; of understanding the processes and behaviour occurring; or even of judging the success or failure of our experiments. The development of fusion plasma devices is no different. LÄS MER
