    Sammanfattning : This thesis discusses different challenges of mediating literature in textbooks. The study is based on a critical analysis of the textbook BRUS as well as other textbooks.     Sammanfattning : The purpose of the thesis is to identify the dominant legitimations of literature study in five literature textbooks for the upper secondary school in Sweden and how these legitimations are realized textually and visually. Focusing on paratexts (covers and preface), text–image relations, the representation of authorship and genre the analysis draws theoretically and methodologically upon multimodality, discourse analysis and genre theory.     Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis, The Historical Novel and Historical Consciousness in ten- to twelve-year-olds - Maj Bylocks Drakskeppstrilogi in Theory and Practice, is to illustrate the possibilities for pupils of the ages between ten to twelve to develop their historical consciousness by participating in classroom work making use of fiction as a central source of knowledge. In the first part of the thesis the three novels in the trilogy about the Viking age by the Swedish author Maj Bylock, Drakskeppet (1997), Det gyllne svärdet (1998) and Borgen i fjärran (1998), are analyzed.     Sammanfattning : Teacher motivation has been shown to be a major factor that affects students’ motivation to learn a second language; however, English as a foreign language (EFL) teachers’ motivation has not been given enough attention, particularly in the Chinese context where English plays a key role. Thus, this study investigates the motivation of English teachers at the university level in China in order to prepare the ground for the development of recommendations on how to enhance teacher motivation and thereby improve teaching quality and student performance.
