  1. 6. Self-assembly of amyloid-β peptides in the presence of metal ions and interacting molecules – a detour of amyloid building blocks

    Författare :Cecilia Mörman; Astrid Gräslund; Daniel Otzen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biophysics; Alzheimer’s disease; protein aggregation; amyloid formation; amyloid-β peptide; aggregation kinetics; interactions; metal ions; designed peptide constructs; Tau protein; NMR; circular dichroism; fluorescence spectroscopy; Biophysics; biofysik;

    Sammanfattning : Misfolding of proteins into amyloid structures is implicated as a pathological feature in several neurodegenerative diseases and the molecular causes are still unclear. One typical characteristic of Alzheimer’s disease is self-assembly and accumulation of soluble amyloid-β (Aβ) peptides into insoluble fibrils and plaques. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Tau fragments: role as biomarkers and in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease and other tauopathies

    Författare :Claudia Cicognola; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; tau; fragments; Alzheimer s disease; tauopathy; cerebrospinal fluid;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract Tau protein is physiologically expressed in neurons, where it is involved in microtubule assembly and stability. Tau functions are rigorously regulated by a series of modifications, e.g. phosphorylation and dephosphorylation. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Novel cerebrospinal fluid and blood tau biomarkers in Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative diseases

    Författare :Juan Lantero Rodriguez; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Tau; Phosphorylation; Biomarkers; Alzheimer’s disease; CSF; Blood;

    Sammanfattning : Tau is a protein predominantly expressed in neurons in the central nervous system (CNS), where it binds microtubules (MT), playing a major role regulating their dynamics and architecture. Under pathological conditions, tau detaches from MTs, leading to neuronal dysfunction and cell death. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Pituitary Tumor Surgery - factors influencing outcome

    Författare :Tobias Hallén; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Endoscopic transsphenoidal surgery; biomarkers; glial fibrillary acidic protein; neurofilaments; tau protein; pituitary tumors; sinonasal health; tumor progression; predictive markers; MCM7; methylation patterns; NFPA;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Pituitary tumors represent 15–20% of intracranial tumors. The majority are benign adenomas, of which 30 % are hormonally inactive, the non-functioning pituitary adenomas (NFPAs). LÄS MER

  5. 10. Developmental Neurotoxicity of Environmental Pollutants : Effects on neuronal protein markers after neonatal exposure

    Författare :Iwa Lee; Henrik Viberg; Elena Jazin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental neurotoxicity; Neonatal exposure; Protein markers; Environmental pollutants; Biologi med inriktning mot ekotoxikologi; Biology with specialization in Environmental Toxicology;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focused on investigations of the developmental neurotoxic effects of bisphenol A (BPA) or perfluorohexane sulfonate (PFHxS), after a single neonatal exposure, during a critical period of the brain development in mice.BPA is a well-known industrial chemical used in the production of polymer products and PFHxS is used as an industrial additive as a surfactant.
