  1. 1. Conservation Genetics of Scandinavian Wolverines

    Författare :Eva Hedmark; Hans Ellegren; Lisette Waits; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular genetics; carnivores; conservation; genetic monitoring; molecular sexing; non-invasive genetic techniques; parentage analysis; tanning; Genetik; Gulo gulo; Genetics; Genetik;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, genetic methods for individual identification and sex determination of wolverines from non-invasive samples were developed and applied in genetic monitoring of Scandinavian wolverine populations. Paternity and mating system of wolverines were studied by combining genetic analysis with telemetry data. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Assessment of UV exposure in a young metropolitan population

    Författare :Cecilia Boldeman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Adolescents; Behaviors; Erythema; Phenotype; Skin cancer; Sunbed use;

    Sammanfattning : Overexposure to UVR causes >80% of skin cancers, and >30% of all diagnosed cancers in western societies, Sweden included, are skin cancers. Overexposure in terms of UV-induced erythema during childhood and adolescence is considered particularly harmful. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Modelling of melanocortin receptors and their ligands

    Författare :Peteris Prusis; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical biosciences; melanocortin; G-protein coupled receptor; modeling; three-dimensional; QSAR; chemometrics; Farmaceutisk biovetenskap; Biopharmacy; Biofarmaci; farmaceutisk farmakologi; Pharmaceutical Pharmacology;

    Sammanfattning : Five subtypes of melanocortin receptors (MC1-MC5R) mediate a wide range of physiological actions, including control of skin tanning, inflammation and food intake. The natural ligands for these receptors are the melanocortins, which are linear peptides 11 to 39 amino acids long. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Benefits and risks with digital dermoscopy and teledermoscopy

    Författare :Johan Dahlén Gyllencreutz; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; melanoma; non-melanoma skin cancer; teledermoscopy; dermoscopy; teledermatology; e-health;

    Sammanfattning : The increasing incidence of malignant melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC) makes it necessary to optimize the management of patients with suspicious skin lesions, from triaging, to establishing a diagnosis and planning treatment. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the use of teledermoscopy (TDS) as a way of achieving such an optimization, as well as to study safety aspects of digital dermoscopy and teledermoscopy while pointing out risks and pitfalls so that they can be avoided. 5. 5. Metaproteogenomics-guided enzyme discovery : Targeted identification of novel proteases in microbial communities

    Författare :Mikaela Johansson; Martin Karlsson; Bengt-Harald Jonsson; Florian-Alexander Herbst; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Industrial biotechnology is a large and growing industry as it is part of establishing a “greener” and more sustainable bioeconomy-based society. Using enzymes as biocatalysts is a viable alternative to chemicals and energy intense industrial processes and is en route to a more sustainable industry. LÄS MER
