2. Understanding Neural Machine Translation : An investigation into linguistic phenomena and attention mechanisms
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I explore neural machine translation (NMT) models via targeted investigation of various linguistic phenomena and thorough exploration of the internal structure of NMT models, in particular the attention mechanism. With respect to linguistic phenomena, I explore the ability of NMT models to translate ambiguous words, to learn long-range dependencies, to learn morphology, and to translate negation—linguistic phenomena that have been challenging for the older paradigm of statistical machine translation. 3. Transient control in low-voltage power installation networks and electronic systems
Sammanfattning : Transient protection in a low-voltage power installation network and an electronic system isof vital importance since most of the activities of our society are very dependent on thereliability of low-voltage power installation networks and electronic systems. This thesisconcentrates upon several investigations which all deal with the evaluation and improvementof the protection measures of low-voltage power installation networks and electronic systemsagainst electrical transients. 4. Deep Learning Assisted Visual Odometry
Sammanfattning : The capabilities to autonomously explore and interact with the environmenthas always been a greatly demanded capability for robots. Varioussensor based SLAM methods were investigated and served for this purposein the past decades. LÄS MER
5. Linking distributed hydrological processes with ecosystem vegetation dynamics and carbon cycling: Modelling studies in a subarctic catchment of northern Sweden
Sammanfattning : The Arctic and Subarctic regions are of particular importance to the global climate change and are now experiencing a climate warming that is higher than the global average. Around 50% of the global soil carbon is stored in high latitude soils, especially in permafrost and peatland soils. LÄS MER
