  1. 1. Tactile Sensory Control of Dexterous Manipulation in Humans

    Författare :Ingvars Birznieks; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology; cutaneous sensibility; tactile afferents; fingertip force; grasp stability; human hand; manipulation; object shape; precision grip; sensorimotor control; coding; Fysiologi; Physiology; Fysiologi; fysiologi; Physiology;

    Sammanfattning : During dexterous manipulation with the fingertips, forces are applied to objects' surfaces. To achieve grasp stability, these forces must be appropriate given the properties of the objects and the skin of the fingertips, and the nature of the task. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Functional brain imaging of sensorimotor dysfunction and restoration : investigations of discomplete spinal cord injury and deep brain stimulation for essential tremor

    Författare :Amar Awad; Johan Eriksson; Patric Blomstedt; Richard Levi; Lars Nyberg; Rick Helmich; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Sensorimotor control; fMRI; discomplete spinal cord injury; essential tremor; deep brain stimulation; cerebello-thalamo-cerebral circuit; Physiology; fysiologi; neurokirurgi; Neurosurgery; Neurology; neurologi; rehabiliteringsmedicin; Rehabilitation Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : The nervous system exists to generate adaptive behaviour by processing sensory input from the body and the environment in order to produce appropriate motor output, and vice versa. Consequently, sensorimotor dysfunction is the basis of disability in most neurological pathologies. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Pain, Touch, and Decision Making : Behavioral and Brain Responses to Affective Somatosensory Stimulation

    Författare :Lina Koppel; India Morrison; Daniel Västfjäll; Gustav Tinghög; Johannes Haushofer; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Stimulation of sensory nerves can give rise to powerful affective experiences. Noxious stimuli can give rise to pain, an unpleasant experience which, in turn, causes suffering and constitutes a major societal burden. Touch, on the other hand, can feel pleasant and plays an important role in social relationships and well-being. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Spinal cord stimulation in neuropathy : experimental studies of biochemistry and behaviour

    Författare :Jian-Guo Cui; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Neuropathic pain; mononeuropathy; GABA; glutamate; aspartate; galanin; neuropeptide Y; adenosine; spinal cord stimulation;

    Sammanfattning : Neuropathic pain, presenting with cutaneous hypersensitivity, i.e. allodynia, dysesthesia and hyperalgesia, is often difficult to manage with pharmacotherapy, but may be effectively alleviated by electric spinal cord stimulation (SCS). However, the mode of action of SCS is still poorly understood. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Investigations of human cortical processing of gentle touch. A study with time-resolved electro-magnetic signal analysis

    Författare :Elin Eriksson Hagberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Aβ afferent; C-tactile; touch; EEG; MEG; SEEG;

    Sammanfattning : The present work summarizes investigations of the temporal correlates of brain activity elicited by gentle, moving touch on the hairy skin in healthy participants and in epilepsy patients. Light touch to the hairy skin activates two distinct afferent classes: fast conducting, Aβ afferents and slowly conducting C-tactile (CT) afferents. LÄS MER
