  1. 16. The CpG island methylator phenotype in colorectal cancer : studies on risk and prognosis

    Författare :Anna Dahlin; Richard Palmqvist; Bethany van Guelpen; Maria Henriksson; Åke Öberg; Xiao-Feng Sun; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Colorectal cancer; DNA methylation; folate; microsatellite instability MSI ; prognosis; risk factors; t-lymphocytes; the CpG island methylator phenotype CIMP ; Vitamin B12; Pathology; Patologi; Tumour biology; Tumörbiologi; patologi; Pathology;

    Sammanfattning : Background Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second most common malignancy in developed countries. The mortality is high, with nearly half of patients dying from the disease. The primary treatment of CRC is surgery, and decisions about additional treatment with chemotherapy are based mainly on tumor stage. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Cyclic nucleotide signalling systems in vascular smooth muscle cells and immune system cells with special reference to phosphodiesterases PDE3 and PDE4

    Författare :Dag Ekholm; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; HTLV-I; multiple sclerosis; proliferation; phosphorylation; T-lymphocytes; vascular smooth muscle; cloning; protein kinase A; cGMP; cAMP; PDE4; Phosphodiesterase; PDE3; cilostamide; rolipram; Histology; cytochemistry; histochemistry; tissue culture; Histologi; cytokemi; histokemi; vävnadskultur;

    Sammanfattning : The cyclic nucleotide signalling systems are important in vascular smooth muscle and in the immune system, and are of interest from a pharmacological point of view. Drugs which interfere with the cyclic nucleotide levels have profound effects on heart, blood vessels and airways and have actual or potential use in several important diseases, such as heart failure, hypertension, arteriosclerosis, asthma and autoimmune diseases. 3. 18. T lymphocyte recruitment in Helicobacter pylori-associated diseases

    Författare :Karin Enarsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Helicobacter pylori; homing; T lymphocytes; gastric adenocarcinoma; regulatory T cells;

    Sammanfattning : Helicobacter pylori (Hp) infection is associated with pronounced infiltration of granulocytes and lymphocytes into the gastric mucosa, resulting in active chronic gastritis that may develop into duodenal ulcer disease or gastric adenocarcinoma (GC). Infiltrating T cells play a major role in the pathology of these diseases, but the signals involved in recruitment of T cells from blood to H. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Regulatory properties of dendritic cells and B cells in adaptive immunity

    Författare :Bengt Johansson Lindbom; Adaptivt immunförsvar; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; serology; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi; Immunology; Cellular differentiation; Cytokines; Dendritic cells; B lymphocytes; T lymphocytes;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is based upon four original papers in which human dendritic cells (DCs) and B cells have been analyzed in terms of how they influence the character of adaptive immune responses. DCs isolated from human tonsils were found to possess a capacity to directly regulate proliferation, isotype switching, and antibody production in B cells. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Interleukin-17 in non-allergic airway inflammation

    Författare :Martti Laan; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; IL-17; airway inflammation; bronchial epithelial cells; neutrophils; T-lymphocytes; IL-8; IL-6; MAP kinases.;

    Sammanfattning : Chronic bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), bronchial asthma and cystic fibrosis are common clinical disorders all characterized by airway neutrophilia. By releasing proteolytic enzymes and free oxygen radicals, neutrophils can contribute to the main features of these diseases such as airway obstruction, hypersecretion and remodelling. LÄS MER
