21. Beyond the established risk factors of myocardial infarction : lifestyle factors and novel biomarkers
Sammanfattning : Age, male sex, hypertension, smoking, diabetes, dyslipidaemia, and obesity are considered as established risk factors for cardiovascular diseases. Several of these established cardiovascular risk factors are strongly influenced by lifestyle. LÄS MER
22. The significance of urokinase-type plasminogen activator (u-PA) in tumour growth and Linomide-induced upregulation of u-PA's endogenous inhibitor PAI-2
Sammanfattning : The progressive process of tumour invasion and generation of metastases is the primary cause of death for most patients with cancer. Some of the regulatory components of this progressive process are adhesion, migration, and proteolysis. LÄS MER
23. Bacterial interaction with the fibrinolytic system and extracellular matrix
Sammanfattning : Bacterial infection of host organisms is a state of complex interaction between the parasite and the host. Two critical steps in the infectious process are: Adhesion to the epithelial surfaces and penetration of tissue barriers to gain entrance to tissues and into the circulation. These two steps have been the subjects of this thesis. LÄS MER
24. Studies on the cultured human endothelial cell with special regard to clinical applicability
Sammanfattning : The improvement of cardiovascular prosthetic materials, to reduce thrombus formation and inflammatory / immunological reactions, is a clinical challenge. Endothelial cell (EC) seeding using autologous cells to line the luminal surface of prosthetic materials has been suggested. LÄS MER
25. Aspects of Plasminiogen Activator Inhibitor 1 in Metabolic Syndrome
Sammanfattning : Plasminogen activator inhibitor 1 (PAI-1) is the main inhibitor of the fibrinolytic system and binds irreversibly to tissue-type plasminogen activator (t-PA), and thereby inhibits the protective action of t-PA against thrombus formation. Elevated levels of plasma PAI-1 is observed in subjects with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and the metabolic syndrome (MetS), which is a combination of metabolic features including obesity. LÄS MER
