1. T cells, Cytokines, and Genetic Factors in Autoimmunity Studies of experimental models of arthritis and sialadenitis
Sammanfattning : To understand the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases we have to consider the problem from different angles. Animal models provide a tool to further understand these complex diseases, as the influence of genetic and environmental factors could be limited. LÄS MER
2. Primary Sjögren's Syndrome: Studies of DNA damage responses and autoantibodies
Sammanfattning : Primary Sjögren’s syndrome (SS) is a chronic autoimmune disease of unknown etiology. The disease primarily involves lachrymal and salivary glands, leading to dryness of the eyes and mouth, but a wide spectrum of exocrine and non-exocrine disease manifestations may be seen. LÄS MER
3. Skin fibrosis, internal organ involvement and auto antibodies in systemic sclerosis: longitudinal development and impact on survival
Sammanfattning : Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a connective tissue disease with a highly variable prognosis. Since new treatment strategies are emerging, there is a need for prognostic markers in order to help allocate patients to the optimal treatment. LÄS MER
4. Influence of leukotriene D4 and cyclooxygenase-2 on cell survival
Sammanfattning : The pro-inflammatory effect of leukotrienes is an important element in the pathogenesis of multiple disorders, including asthma and inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). A serious concern for IBD patients is the increased risk of developing colorectal cancer and since there seems to be a general connection between inflammation and cancer we hypothesised that LTD4 induced signalling events could be involved in increasing the tumourgenic potential of cells. 5. Dissecting the role of micro-RNAs in diabetes
Sammanfattning : The role of miRNAs in pancreatic islets and β-cell function and in the development of diabetes in human and rodents have been investigated in this thesis. Dicer1 was specifically deleted in vivo in pancreatic β-cells under the RIP-promoter in mice. LÄS MER
