  1. 1. Peri-implantitis and periodontitis. Experimental and clinical studies

    Författare :Olivier Carcuac; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; dental implant; animal experiment; biopsy; radiology; histology; immunohistochemistry; inflammation; peri-implant disease; periodontal disease; treatment; systemic antibiotics; antiseptics;

    Sammanfattning : Peri-implantitis is an increasing problem in implant dentistry. The current series of studies employed a translational approach with the aim to compare peri-implantitis and periodontitis lesions and evaluate the influence of implant surface characteristics and the adjunctive use of systemic antibiotics/local antiseptics on healing following surgical treatment of peri-implantitis. 2. 2. Serum Amyloid A Protein (SAA) in Healthy and Infected Individuals

    Författare :Anders Lannergård; Göran Friman; Anders Larsson; Uwe Ewald; Jonas Hedlund; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Communicable diseases; acute phase proteins; adult; Administration Oral; aminoglycosides; amyloidosis; antibiotics; bacterial infections; body temperature; C-reactive protein; cefuroxime; cystitis; cytokines; elderly; infant; interleukin-6; newborn; pyelonephritis; serum amyloid A protein; virus diseases; Infektionssjukdomar; Infectious diseases; Infektionssjukdomar;

    Sammanfattning : Serum amyloid A protein (SAA) is an acute phase protein that has recently gained increasing interest as a potential marker for disease and treatment monitoring. We investigated SAA and CRP levels in (a) patients with various common infectious diseases (n=98), (b) patients with pyelonephritis (n=37) versus patients with cystitis (n=32), (c) healthy individuals of varying ages (n=231), (d) very immature newborn infants with or without nosocomial infections (NIs) (n=72) and (e) patients with bacterial infections treated with cefuroxime (n=81). 3. 3. Adaptation of Salmonella enterica to antibiotics and innate immunity effectors

    Författare :Kim Vestö; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Salmonella enterica is a bacterial pathogen causing major morbidity and mortality in low- and middle-income countries. The bacteria can cause a wide range of disease, ranging from the severe systemic disease typhoid fever to localized gastroenteritis. Characteristics of typhoid fever, caused by Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi (S. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The role of oestrogens and antibiotics on the development of cancer

    Författare :Johanna Simin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Despite advances in cancer treatment and surgery, cancer-related mortality remains the leading cause of death globally, harvesting over ten million lives annually. While the risk factors are both hormonal and non-hormonal, common prescription drugs’ long-term effects are understudied and likely even underestimated. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Hepatocyte growth factor : Studies on local and systemic release and effects during infectious disease; in vivo and in vitro

    Författare :Fariba Nayeri; Minoca Niste'r; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : The interaction of mesenchymal and epithelial cells that occurs after organ injuries results in enhanced production of cytokines, such as hepatocyte growth factor (HGF). HGF is a glycoprotein with unique properties that contribute to wound healing after injuries. LÄS MER
