  1. 1. Regulation of hyaluronan biosynthesis : Expression in vitro and importance for tumor progression

    Författare :Annica Jacobson; Anders Hjerpe; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Hyaluronan, a component of the extracellular matrix, is synthesized by either of three hyaluronan-synthesizing enzymes termed Has1, Has2 and Has3. The expression level of each Has gene varies between cell types of mesenchymal origin and is differentially regulated in response to external stimuli. LÄS MER

    Författare :Sebastian Buchmann; Anna Herland; Erica Zeglio; Agneta Richter-Dahlfors; Maria Asplund; KTH; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; organic bioelectronics; organic electrochemical transistors; conjugated polymers; microphysiological systems; in vitro cell models; Organisk bioelektronik; organiska elektrokemiska transistorer; Konjugerade polymerer; Mikrofysiologiska system; in vitro-modeller; Medicinsk teknologi; Medical Technology;

    Sammanfattning : Biological processes in the human body are regulated through complex and precise arrangements of cell structures and their interactions. In vivo models serve as the most accurate choice for biological studies to understand these processes. However, they are costly, time-consuming, and raise ethical issues. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Brown adipose tissue recruitment in-vivo and in-vitro

    Författare :David Herron; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Brown adipose tissue recruitment was studied in the newborn hamster and in brown adipocyte precursor cell cultures.In the newborn hamster, the development of the thermogenic potential of brown adipose tissue was followed by estimating the amount of the uncoupling protein thermogenin by the binding of GDP to the mitochondria. 4. 4. Cellulose synthases in Populus- identification, expression analyses and in vitro synthesis

    Författare :Soraya Djerbi; Tuula Teeri; Petter Gustafsson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; cellulose synthase; Populus; secondary cell wall; gene upregulation; cell suspension culture; stationary phase; Bioengineering; Bioteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Cellulose is a biopolymer of great relevance in the plant cell walls, where it constitutes the most important skeletal component. Cellulose is also an important raw material in the pulp- and paper, forest, and textile industries, among others. LÄS MER

  5. 5. New approaches for treatment of acute intermittent porphyria by enzyme substitution and gene therapy : evaluation in vitro and in vivo

    Författare :Annika Johansson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Acute intermittent porphyria; adenovirus; 5-aminolevulinic acid; enzyme substitution; gene therapy; non-viral gene delivery; porphobilinogen; porphobilinogen deaminase; protoporphyrin;

    Sammanfattning : Acute intermittent porphyria (AIP) is a rare inborn metabolic error of heme synthesis in which the activity of the third enzyme, porphobilinogen deaminase (PBGD), is deficient. It is clinically characterized by acute, potentially life-threatening neurologic attacks that are precipitated by various drugs, reproductive hormones and other factors. LÄS MER
