1. Reconciling gene family evolution and species evolution
Sammanfattning : Species evolution can often be adequately described with a phylogenetic tree. Interestingly, this is the case also for the evolution of homologous genes; a gene in an ancestral species may – through gene duplication, gene loss, lateral gene transfer (LGT), and speciation events – give rise to a gene family distributed across contemporaneous species. 2. Timing and Schedulability Analysis of Real-Time Systems using Hidden Markov Models
Sammanfattning : In real-time systems functional requirements are coupled to timing requirements, a specified event needs to occur at the appropriate time. In order to ensure that timing requirements are fulfilled, there are two main approaches, static and measurement-based. LÄS MER
3. Determination of Banned Azo Dyes in Leather
Sammanfattning : Dyes are commercially indispensable and the expanding industry offers a complete palette of colors. Azo dyes constitute the largest chemical class of synthetic dyes because of their versatility, low price, and ease of production. LÄS MER
4. Modeling and optimization of least-cost corridors
Sammanfattning : Given a grid of cells, each having a value indicating its cost per unit area, a variant of the least-cost path problem is to find a corridor of a specified width connecting two termini such that its cost-weighted area is minimized. A computationally efficient method exists for finding such corridors, but as is the case with conventional raster-based least-cost paths, their incremental orientations are limited to a fixed number of (typically eight orthogonal and diagonal) directions, and therefore, regardless of the grid resolution, they tend to deviate from those conceivable on the Euclidean plane. 5. On the Treatment of Flow in Traffic Safety Analysis, - a non-parametric approach applied on vulnerable road users
Sammanfattning : The treatment of flow in the area of traffic safety has a long tradition. The influence flow has on the number of accidents is, however, often considered so obvious that it tends to be trivial. In this thesis I can show that the relation between flow and accidents holds interesting information. LÄS MER
