1. The Human Cochlea and Cochlear Implantation : Morphological Characteristics and Clinical Correlations
Sammanfattning : The most common sensory deficit in the world is sensorineural hearing loss. Cochlear implantation (CI) can majorly contribute to restore hearing, not only in patients with severe to profound hearing loss, but also in hearing-impaired patients with residual low-frequency hearing. 2. The Human Vestibular Aqueduct, Endolymphatic Duct and Sac : A Morphological Study Using Micro-CT, Super Resolution Immunohistochemistry and Synchrotron Phase Contrast Imaging
Sammanfattning : The inner ear lies sheltered in the temporal bone and consists of basically three parts: the cochlea (the hearing organ), the vestibular (the balance organ), and the endolymphatic duct (ED) and endolymphatic sac (ES). The ES and ED are located in a bony canal, the vestibular aqueduct (VA), located on the medial side of the vestibule. LÄS MER
3. A Segmented Silicon Strip Detector for Photon-Counting Spectral Computed Tomography
Sammanfattning : Spectral computed tomography with energy-resolving detectors has a potential to improve the detectability of images and correspondingly reduce the radiation dose to patients by extracting and properly using the energy information in the broad x-ray spectrum. A silicon photon-counting detector has been developed for spectral CT and it has successfully solved the problem of high photon flux in clinical CT applications by adopting the segmented detector structure and operating the detector in edge-on geometry. 4. High resolution laboratory x-ray tomography for biomedical research : From design to application
Sammanfattning : Laboratory x-ray micro- and nano-tomography are emerging techniques in biomedical research. Through the use of phase-contrast, sufficient contrast can be achieved in soft tissue to support medical studies. LÄS MER
5. 3D visualization of vascular lesions and the role of versican in pulmonary arterial hypertension
Sammanfattning : Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a condition that leads to lethal right heart failure. Available treatments provide relief but are far from curative and the vascular remodeling in PAH has been difficult to decipher. LÄS MER
