  1. 21. Immune recognition molecules in synaptic plasticity and regeneration of spinal motoneurons

    Författare :Sebastian Thams; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is based on the emerging concept that pattern recognition molecules, originally characterized in the immune system, may be expressed and used by neurons to mediate non-immune functions. In line with this concept, the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I and certain complements proteins have been implicated in synaptic plasticity in the developing visual system. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Roles of SNAP-25 isoforms in activity-dependent long-term synaptic plasticity

    Författare :Muhammad Irfan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : SNARE proteins, SNAP-25, syntaxin 1A and VAMP2 constitute the functional units which join together to form the core SNARE complex. The SNARE complex carries out the vital function of membrane fusion of intracellular vesicles with plasma membranes, leading to the release of neurotransmitters in brain neuronal circuits and of hormones in endocrine glands. 3. 23. Revealing Secrets of Synaptic Protein Interactions : A Biosensor based Strategy

    Författare :Christian Seeger; U Helena Danielson; Sarah Lummis; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surface plasmon resonance; biosensor; AMPA receptor; GABAA receptor; ligand-gated ion channel; A-kinase anchoring protein; caldendrin; calmodulin; HIV; fragment based drug discovery; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Protein interactions are the basis of synaptic function, and studying these interactions on a molecular level is crucial for understanding basic brain function, as well as mechanisms underlying neurological disorders. In this thesis, kinetic and mechanistic characterization of synaptic protein interactions was performed by using surface plasmon resonance biosensor technology. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Developmental plasticity of the glutamate synapse: Roles of low frequency stimulation, hebbian induction and the NMDA receptor

    Författare :Joakim Strandberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :AMPA receptor; Development; Glutamate; Hippocampus; Long-term depression; Long-term potentiation; NMDA receptor; Synaptic depression;

    Sammanfattning : The glutamate synapse is by far the most common synapse in the brain and acts via postsynaptic AMPA, NMDA and mGlu receptors. During brain development there is a continuous production of these synapses where those partaking in activity resulting in neuronal activity are subsequently selected to establish an appropriate functional pattern of synaptic connectivity while those that do not are elimimated. 5. 25. Extra- and intracellular electronic conductance of signals and its significance for synaptic plasticity

    Författare :Isaac Shemer; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Electrical signals play a pivotal role in the normal function of most if not all organisms. Understanding the electrophysiological principles that govern electrical signaling is essential for insights into normal- and pathological processes in cell biology. LÄS MER
