  1. 16. Synaptic plasticity in local networks of neocortical layer 2/3

    Författare :Misha Zilberter; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Neocortical microcircuit; layer 2 3; pyramidal cell; spike timing- dependent plasticity; LTP; LTD; FSN interneuron; retrograde signalling; SAT2;

    Sammanfattning : The neocortex is a hierarchal organ in which information processing takes on place on many levels, from subcellular signalling all the way to neural networks. Neocortical local neuronal networks (microcircuits), composed of interconnected neurons, form elementary information processing units within the cortex. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Allosteric regulation of synaptic processes

    Författare :Ranjita Dutta Roy; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Glutamatergic neurotransmission is of key importance for short-term and long-term plasticity in the hippocampus, a part of the medial temporal lobe which is responsible for processes of explicit semantic and spatial memory. Short-term plasticity is mainly regulated by the presynaptic neuron and long-term plasticity is to large parts regulated by the post-synaptic neuron. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Neurotrophic factors and neuronal plasticity

    Författare :Sten Linnarsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The neurotrophic factors were originally discovered because of their ability to rescue neurons during a period of naturally occurring programmed cell death. This gave rise to the neurotrophic factor hypothesis which states that specific target-derived factors protect and support subpopulations of innervating neurons, thereby regulating the pattern and quantity of innervation properly for each target tissue. 4. 19. Mechanisms of Hyperexcitability in the Kindling Model of Epilepsy

    Författare :Eskil Elmer; Sektion IV; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neuropsychology; Neurology; Plasticity; Dentate gyrus; Mossy fibers; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Epilepsy is a syndrome characterized by recurring attacks of sudden, excessive and synchronous discharge in populations of cerebral neurons. Kindling is an animal model for complex partial epilepsy, and is particularly useful for studies on the development of the abnormal excitability underlying the generation and spread of epileptic seizures.
