    Sammanfattning : The Swedish composer John Fernström (1897-1961) wrote over 200 pieces in the genres of symphonic music, chamber music and vocal music for mixed choirs, male choirs and solo vocals accompanied by piano. He lived most of his life in the province of Scania, first working in Helsingborg from 1916­ 1939 as a violinist in Nordvästra Skånes Orkester- förening [the Northwest Scanian Orchestra], whereafter he moved to Malmö and worked as a freelance conductor and composer until 1943.     Sammanfattning : The intention of this dissertation is to provide a portrait of Hilding Rosenberg´s musical work "The Revelation of S:t John" (1940), for a large orchestra, chorus and recitation (recitative), through illuminating the work´s history of origin and basic literary and musical structure. As a composition initially intended for broadcast over the radio, the form and content of "The Revelation of S:t John" was to a great degree determined by the conditions dictated by radio at the time.
