  1. 16. Molecular characterization of the Drosophila responses towards nematodes

    Författare :Md. Badrul Arefin; Ulrich Theopold; Ioannis Eleftherianos; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Drosophila; nematodes; infection; danger situations; immune response; coagulation; apoptosis; nitric oxide; leukemia; Molecular Biology; molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : A sophisticated evolutionary conserved innate immune system has evolved in insects to fight pathogens and to restrict damage in harmful (danger) situations including cancer. A significant amount of knowledge about different infection models in Drosophila has been generated in past decades, which revealed functional resemblances and implications for vertebrate systems. 2. 17. Multi-omics investigation into bacterial evolution

    Författare :Karl Dyrhage; Siv Andersson; Dan I. Andersson; Jay Hinton; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; bioinformatics; bacterial evolution; cellular complexity; comparative genomics; transcriptomics; proteomics; fructophilic lactic acid bacteria; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär evolution; Biology with specialization in Molecular Evolution;

    Sammanfattning : The focus of this thesis is the investigation of the evolution and cellular processes of Tuwongella immobilis and Apilactobacillus kunkeei, two bacterial species with different levels of genomic and cellular complexity, using a multi-omics approach.In the first study we examined the proteome of T. 3. 18. Parasite on Crayfish : Characterisation of Their Pathogenesis, Host Interactions and Diversity

    Författare :Eakaphun Bangyeekhun; Anders Tunlid; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Zoophysiology; Crayfish; Parasite; Oomycete; Prophenoloxidase; Peroxinectin; Aphanomyces astaci; Psorospermium haecheli; White spot syndrome virus; Zoofysiologi; Animal physiology; Zoofysiologi; biologisk beroendeforskning; Biological Research on Drug Dependence;

    Sammanfattning : The crayfish plague refractory crayfish, Pacifastacus leniusculus, which can harbour the fungal parasite within melanotic sheath, are found to constitutively express the gene encoding for prophenoloxidase (proPO) after mimicking parasite attack. In contrast, the susceptible crayfish, Astacus astacus, responds to the parasite by increased levels of proPO transcript, particularly in the semigranular haemocytes. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Genomic and evolutionary exploration of Asgard archaea

    Författare :Eva F. Caceres; Thijs J. G. Ettema; Simonetta Gribaldo; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :archaea; Asgard; eukaryogenesis; metagenomics; genome binning; phylogenetics; phylogenomics; comparative genomics; gene tree-species tree reconciliation; ancestral reconstruction; long-read metagenomics;

    Sammanfattning : Current evolutionary theories postulate that eukaryotes emerged from the symbiosis of an archaeal host with, at least, one bacterial symbiont. However, our limited grasp of microbial diversity hampers insights into the features of the prokaryotic ancestors of eukaryotes. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Effects and Dynamics of Insertion Sequences in the Evolution of Cyanobacteria

    Författare :Carl Theoden Vigil Stenman; Birgitta Bergman; Andersson Siv; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cyanobacteria; Insertion Sequences; Evolution; Plant Physiology; växtfysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Cyanobacteria are globally widespread and ecologically highly significant photoautotrophic microorganisms, with diverse geno- and phenotypic characters unprecedented among prokaryotes. This phylum embraces representatives with an exclusive adaptability in highly specialized environments, from oligotrophic ocean waters to the interior of cells in symbiotic plants, the most extreme being the chloroplasts.
